Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Bill shared this Hemming’s ad for 2 CJ-2As, one with the Kubota swap. This combo is listed on Hemmings. Given the red jeep isn’t quite stock (front bumper has extra metal, it’s missing the front bow holder, there appear to be no tail lights, and the front parking lights are incorrect) and the black jeep is even less so (has even more mods), though has a new Diesel engine, the price seems a little aggressive.

“1948 CJ-2A, restored by prior owner. Documentation including manuals, assembly notes, receipts and restoration photos.
L-134 4 Cylinder motor with three speed manual transmission and transfer case. Has rare overdrive mounted but could be changed to front or rear PTO.
Original 6 volt electrical system.
Red with grey seats. Black top and doors.
Great shape, runs and drives well, however this is a 73 year old vehicle so don’t expect it to drive like a modern car!”

Bill is selling his beautiful 1947 CJ-2A. We met with Bill back in 2018 and I saw this jeep in person at that time.
“For sale-1946 Willys CJ2A-total restoration completed in 2013 to include new body tub, wiring harness, brakes, tires, steering, rebuilt trans. and transfer case with new overdrive unit. Engine rebuilt (engine is a 1948) new gas tank and fuel lines, 3500 miles since complete restoration. A few oil drips but in beautiful and perfect running condition. 46 engine and several boxes of spare parts included.”

Solid body and frame. Runs and drives well – only known issue is that one of the brakes starts to get sticky after longer drives. It was substantially rebuilt from the ground up about 5 years ago.

(02/06/2021) Looks in good shape. Has the wrong grille for a 1948.
“This is a stunning 1948 Willy’s Jeep that has been carefully restored to be a perfect piece for a collector or a Jeep lover who wants a piece of American History. Purchased with plans to drive as a summer toy, plans have changed and need to find this beauty a great home. Vehicle displays 66,705 miles. Vehicle has been restored and includes many original components, including the engine, transmission, bridge frame, gauges, etc.
Was repainted in a satin fire red color and is a real head turner both on and off the road. As you can see from the pictures, all restoration components were carefully selected to be vintage OEM pieces and the work was done to keep the vintage feel of the era. The jeep includes 1/2 doors with canvas uppers (not pictured) and a full canvas top (as shown).
This ought to be good for tackling desert and mountain trails in the PNW.
