The steering has been converted to a saginaw box. It’s mounted pretty high on the frame. A good picture from the front ought to give more info. Otherwise, it looks like a solid jeep.

“Good complete jeep for restoration back to military (several hundred dollars of parts included) or just fun CJ-5 type driver. Clean title. The jeep starts, runs and stops. Five brand new American made military non-directional tires on reconditioned rims (2 combat, 2 regular jeep). The engine has good even compression (taken 7/2013). See photo of parts included at purchase price. Carburetor needs to be replaced or rebuilt. No significant rust in the tub – good solid steel tub. Engine: Hurricane134 F head with T-90 transmission. Tom spotted this M-38A1 for auction.

“Will start with a jump and prime. Serial number MD 19673 Engine number MD 82728. Has correct for model MD marked military engine. Has limited rust, good floorboards and tool box. Converted to 12 volt but still has correct starter, ignition switch, carburetor and light switch. Original front bumper included. Original wheels and seat frames.

Has tow Bar but not mounted on jeep Truck has had the decals removed, some impression may remain. It has minor dings, dents and scratches. Radios and special equipment have been removed some holes were drilled in dash and floor board ”

“1954 Willys M38A1, purchased this with plans to finish, plans have unfortunately have changed. It’s an original body, amateur restoration. Have pictures of when it was being restored. It’s definitely come a long ways!

It still needs to be finished, mechanically it may need a starter, battery, an obvious carb clean. It has been converted to a 12v system with electronic fuel pump. Tires are good, minimal surface rust. Could be finished as it sits and used for what it is, or if desired stripped and brought back to original.”
