Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “For sale the ultimate early CJ5, CJ6, CJ2, commando and CJ3B combo an upgraded t90 transmission with a twin stick dana/ spicer transfer case, with a warn overdrive and a Ramsey pto . Also included are the parts to remove the pto. This is a great setup and was fully functional when removed. The guy I bought it from was doing a diesel swap in his cj6 and couldn’t use this setup. I was going to use the transfer case and overdrive in my cj5 but it turns out the t14 trans I have has a different spline count so I can’t use it. Looking to get 1000 obo or trade for a warn overdrive for a t14/ dana 18 or let me know what you have. This is a good price as the warn overdrive alone is new over a 1000 and 700+- used”

Eric forwarded this ad. The ad’s title notes the overdrive is a rare Dualmatic overdrive. Herm has rebuilt these in the past. I couldn’t say if he still does or not.

“I’m selling a Dana 18 and TH350 Transmission out a 1954 Jeep Willys CJ3B project. Both pieces were supposedly rebuilt and installed prior to my purchasing and taking over the project. The Dana 18 has a Warn overdrive, both drive shaft yokes,, new torque convertor. and two crossmembers for mounting. I decided to go with a manual transmission set up and will no longer be needing the Dana 18 or TH350.”
UPDATE: Was $450.
According to an article from JP Magazine, the WAT was sold by Warn in 1969 and intended to slip between a T-18 and a transfer case. The writer of the article only remembered ever seeing one of them.
“The war in overdrive unit shift good and bolts between the T case and the transmission. I am asking 450 but open to offers. Was going to use in a Dodge pickup to get rid of the automatic but my plans have changed.”
I found this ad in the May, 1969, issue of Popular Mechanics.

“This is a complete unit meaning T90, D18, overdrive and Koenig pto with winch. As far as I can tell, this is a pretty rare unit to include overdrive and PTO together. I got it for my willys wagon, but you know the story, times are tough. Not sure of internal condition, but looks to be resealed. Was in 60’s cj5 with buick motor. Will not separate. If doesn’t sale, will make it in wagon some day.”

“For Sale 4-speed SM420 transmission with granny 7.04:1 first gear mated via Advanced Adapters (PN# 50-2401) to a Dana 18 transfer case with the large 1.25″ intermediate shaft. This is the ultimate set up for short wheel base Jeeps. I had this drive train in my Willys Jeep and it worked great. Comes complete with shifters, cross member mount, and output yokes. The tranny and T-case were rebuilt a few years back. I have since moved to a longer wheelbase jeep and switched this out for a Dana 300.”

The T 90 was the standard 3 speed used in Willys Jeep CJ 2A, CJ 3A, CJ 3B, CJ 5, Willys Wagon, Truck, Panel Truck, Jeepster, M38, M38A1, FC 150, FC 170 from 1945 to 1971 and many other brands. “I pulled this complete from a rolled CJ2A but will fit a CJ2 CJ5 and others. Twin stick Spicer 18 transfer case with Spicer 18H chain drive PTO. T90 transmission, drive shafts for axles, parking brake. Big Foote Bros winch, not a little Ramsey ot Koenig winch and PTO drive shaft. The truck was running when rolled but I can’t confirm anything about condition. Being sold as a complete unit for $500 OBO 818-394-0028.”
