Builds — Tom’s new project

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Tom, from Forks, Washington, has a new CJ-5 project he's purchased.  He had a question about the location of the vin plate on the body.  He thought it should be on the passenger side firewall, but that's where the battery holder is located.  Anyone know where the vin plate is on a 50s CJ-5?

Tom also has his two flatties for sale.  You can learn more about then here.

Should be on the right passenger firewall like he thought….. A trip to http://www.earlycj5.com might reveal some helpful information. The tub appears to have renegade stripes like the 70/71 renegade I and II package had but the cowl cover shouldn’t be there if it was this late. What year is it supposed to be? Power?

    Here’s Tom’s Response …

This new” one is titled as a 47, but the only thing I can figure is that
    they have a 47 frame, a 55 body , and a 76? V-6. I’ll put a 47 ID/VIN tag on it on the firewall somewhere and go drive it.

yep…seen that before… My ex-girlfriend bought a 55 or so that was a patched together 55 frame, a 72-75 CJ tub and front end, and a drivetrain from a 76-82- AMC 20 rear, disc 30 front, 258 six, T-18 4 speed, and dana 20 T-case. So who knows what is in Tom’s new rig…. So many of them are missing the tag anyways… If it’s an odd fire Dauntless 225 V-6, they were offered till 71 from about 1965…
