A Dave Update

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Hi all, Dave here. Yes, I’m still alive and breathing! Actually, I’m quite rested!

I recently bought a few cool items off eBay, so Tim said I could those items with you. I’ve got a couple brochures and a couple early Kaiser Willys Newspapers to post over the next week or so.

I should also mention that my eye surgery last week was successful, to the point that I now have 20/15 eye sight (an improvement from 20/200). It is SO awesome to be able to see again. Also, I can now see my computer screen now, which had become difficult by early November.  I do have some excess floaters, which I hope will dissipate using a nutritional plan based on this Irish study; I figure there’s little to lose by trying it.

Just after Christmas we sold our breeder cows. By sold, I mean we traded future wrapped pork, plus a summer cow, which worked for both parties. So, I no longer have to deal with the cold and cows. We will still have a two or three summer cows, which means we will get them in the spring and butcher them in the fall.

Finally, I find myself involved with a French documentary crew who is making a documentary about my great great uncle Henry Farny, the western painter. I’ve become a liaison for them here in the US and they’ve asked me to participate, which might have be visiting Wyoming and/or Cincinnati in May, so I might even be able to make it out to the Willys Reunion (we’ll see how things go)! I am also thinking this might help springboard on a trip to Europe, but we’ll see (as they are filming in France and Germany, too).

Ann and I saw this Henry Farny painting in 2011 while it still hung at my great uncle Farny Eilers’ place in Connecticut. Painted in 1911, I’d estimate it was 5’x3′ at least? Sadly, I learned this week, it was auctioned after his death and now resides in Alabama. The frame’s label indicated it was called “The Good Old Times”, though an Alabama article does not mention the name at all.

Just wanted to share some stuff on the backend, this will be a team effort and you will see some stuff from a few great Willys folks along the way.

Stuff like “Andy’s Picks”, and a few other tricks up our sleeves. Some other Authors are in the works, if they toss up a formal introduction or not, up to them really, but we will have some others helping post stuff. So be on the look out!

I think there is value in most anything but I don’t think we need to post just to post, to fill a certain quota. It may not be all ad’s all the time. The Authors may have some neat information to share or points of view on all things Willys.

Will try to keep the ad links up high in the posts for folks “in the know”, but if I’m learning it for the first time odds are I’m sharing that along the way because there probably is someone else who.csn use that link or knowledge, and maybe I get some comments and we all learn something new.

Vendors

One plan is to reach out to some of the quailty vendors who keep our Willys world working. Mostly to see what’s new or upcoming, maybe you have some special stock of something that might be of interest to others.

Vendor spotlight might be fun to hear a little bit about the history or start up. Probably will have a quick format for that process. No skin in the game here for us, just trying to get some good info out to folks for where parts can be sourced if you would like to talk and share a little at some point keep us in mind. More to come on this idea.

Events

Same for events, it’s great to share a link and that’s super easy, but what makes your event unique, any tips on travel or where to stay for guests from a far. I really like to know about any super tricky roads or access to the event, is there trailer parking for example.

We are able to do something a little more then just the link if your game to share we would love to help spread the word. It’s so much work to put these events on so happy to at a minimum share the link, but can also add some stuff if helpful.

Comments

Posts in general feel free to add a comment or more details if we get it wrong or there is a varying opinion. But please keep it respectful and positive.

Not required at all to comment or like a post. We don’t need to track any of that, but if you do like it or do not, always welcome to let us know so we can get some feedback. This is a non-political site, family oriented,  so posts and comments will always be geared towards that.

If the year is posted for a rig and it’s wrong I typically post the year as per the ad, but will add a comment if it’s a Salad or just not what it is. Sometimes that’s also on purpose to keep all of us on our toes.

Contact Us

Work in progress, while we have a temporary email set up for now, I’m waiting to see if we can fix the site mail in the next few weeks before we post it up, so leave a comment for now and we will get it, if it needs to be off line let us know and we can reach out, you won’t need to share your email in the comment, it comes across the backend.

Thank You!

I really appreciate everyone who has reached out and overall supported me or the site over the years. It’s been a good start and as we get things sorted should be an enjoyable spot to check out from time to time.

Thanks, Tim

Happy Holidays!

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, not often they start on the same day but we celebrate Christmas in our family and have many family and friends who celebrate Hanukkah.  I think anytime you can take a break and disconnect from the day to day it’s a great time of year to spend with your family and friends.

I looked through my phone gallery looking for something to post, I can always toss up a photo of Willa Dean or the Red Wagon each have been our Christmas cards over the past two seasons. But probably my favorite Willys event of 2024 was the Great Willys Picnic. (Way too many pics to choose from!)

So here are some shots I took at the Picinic it was a wonderful turnout of over 90 Willys and a great drive out in Willa Dean, got to connect with a few folks from over at OWF and spending that time with folks.

The overall venue is awesome, lots of things to see outside of the Picnic there is the WK&S Train Ride, Wanamaker Kempton and Southern Railroad. It’s very nice operation and took some time to check out the station, gift shop, and food. Talking with some of the volunteers on how they got involved and it’s quite the family and friends operation.

My ride over is all back roads from NW NJ I crossed at Belvidere and shot out West you ride the hills of NE PA. Having never taken some of these roads before it was an exciting ride for me, Willa Dean has her original column shift and  L134, it really is a time capsule, in total looks like Google recorded 121 total miles for the trip.

If your looking for a trip to the NE this is a great June event. Lots of work goes into this one.

Introduction

• CATEGORIES: News • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Just wanted to toss up an introduction post to folks so that things don’t linger too much. My name is Tim Driscoll (Timd32 on OWF) and between myself and a small team of folks helping on the back end sorting out the hosting and domain work will be working to maintain eWillys.

First and foremost I would like to thank Dave for trusting in me to do the right thing and take eWillys into it’s next adventure. I’ve been in this position before with a very prominent Willys project, it’s not always easy to step into such a great personal project like eWillys and maintain the high level of work performed prior. I often wondered if eWillys was Dave and with no Dave is there an eWillys? But after discussing the project and my history and views on Willys I think we are very well aligned with what eWillys is and what it should never be. No one can replace Dave and build another eWillys, but with so much knowledge and history a lot of us thought it important to take a step to move eWillys forward and continue it’s journey.

Thanks Dave for all the past years of eWillys and the support to move forward with this project!

I’ve been involved with Willys since 1995 when I bought my first Truck.  The truck was/is an early 2WD Willys Salad was priced at $500, did not run, had a really rotted wood bed, I-beam front end and an 8 lug dana rear differential. We pulled it home with a chain which is always a good time, with limited brakes it was a completely unknown vehicle and unknown mfg to my 18 year old self, and so began My Willys Adventures. Over the last 29 years I’ve enjoyed learning and working on Willys of all sorts. For me it’s more about the people then the parts. The stories and hearing others adventures, hearing the history of their families and the joy Willys have brought them.

Since that time I’ve had several Willys and the current fleet includes a few Wagons and Trucks, a large collection of 230 Tornado Engines (mostly cores, “Save the Tornados”). Along with at least one each of the other more common engines L134, F134, 226, everything except anything related to the 161’s.

The nice Willys in my fleet were bought not built I’m the current caretaker of Willa Dean who is a 1948 4T Truck that every single part was lovingly restored over a 3 year period by Vintage Don. Then this year I picked up a super nice 1963 Wagon with the 230 Tornado that was rebuilt and painted in 1994, it’s was also a well loved Willys throughout it’s 30+ years with the last owner, the back story and ownership history are really impressive and the Wagon is a joy to drive.

Our initial goals with eWillys is to maintain the site as it is, I don’t have any major changes to the site to start off. The hosting needs to be sorted out and then any updates required will be performed, we may not have daily posts till we get it all sorted out. Overall I’m a big supporter of (semi) accurate history, I say semi because basically if there is one thing I’ve learned about Willys is you will be surprised at the twists and turns the brand took and what appears to a fact can easily be disproven by one of the many Willys experts in the field.

As I gain the knowledge needed to run the site and navigate the path which it will naturally take, others may join in and assist from time to time. I’ve had alot of help and there are many mentors that have helped me with my Willys over the years. So it’s just natural that this will likely be a team effort. There will be mistakes along the way, things that should have or could have went this way or that way, so bear with us at times. If it’s wrong we will correct it, if it’s broke we will fix it. Every Willys leaks a little something (or its empty) rarely will you find a trailer queen, Willys are meant to be driven, maintained, fixed, and others constantly worked on at times, which I fully expect a website like eWillys will need the same from time to time. But like a well sorted Willys, eWillys should be an enjoyable experience, with just a touch of frustration from time to time!

Thanks for hanging in there, with the holidays it may result in longer then normal reply times and as the work continues there may be some downtime, so don’t give up on us quite yet.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to all the folks who have supported eWillys over the years. Especially to Dave and his family who have brought so much to the Willys community over the years.

Thanks, Tim
