UPDATE: Was listed at $2500. **SOLD**
Runs and drives, but has an unusual front.
“I have a 1977 Jeep. It has an all fiberglass body. That’s nice so it never rusts. It has a good running 4cyl. Ford engine. The transmission is an automatic with overdrive. It runs and drives great. Its not 4 wheel drive but it has a posi rearend. The steering wheel is on the right side.”
That was the Jeep that was; I’ve never seen one like this. If I remember correctly, this was to be the next generation postal jeep with a more economical 4 cylinder engine and lighter weight. For some reason , the contract got canceled when the post office decided it needed more cargo capacity and went with the Grumann aluminum mini step vans. Very rare DJ5 indeed.
That is an unusual DJ-5, I have never seen one like it(until now). Dave has another one on this site and I found a few more examples on google images. There is some mention of an aftermarket company rebuilding DJ-5s and installing fiberglass bodies and 4 cylinder engines. These seems like an expensive enterprise and Mike’s thoughts seem possible. Maybe the DJ-5 experts can give some more details on these.
That’s odd. Wonder if it was home made or a mod they were trying out?
Hi has this jeep sold?
Tony, it appears to have sold. I’ll update the listing.
