I wonder why they louvered the rear tailgate? It’s not like the wagon is like a VW bus, with an air cooled engine hidden behind that panel.
Looks like it has a v8 and auto…I think the louveres look odd too.
A stamping machine + too much free time = a louvered tailgate
Th louvered tailgate is a type of “PATCH PANEL” once available from J C Whitney, I have it on the tailgate of my Chevy stepside. It was a inexpensive fix for a banged up tail gate, 30 years later, still works well.

This is a local wagon, 62 Maverick, 2WD, with a 302 Ford V8 and C-4 automatic. Don’t care so much for the louvers, but the rest of the wagon isn’t bad. It sold a while back for about 6500 and the new owner has it up again for around the same price.
