My Build: The front clip is together …

These cell phone pics and video aren’t the greatest.  I think I’ll go back to snapping pics with my real camera.  But my phone, a Samsung Instinct, is really handy for snapping quick pics and uploading them to my computer via bluetooth (much easier than an iPhone — and that’s from a Mac guy — which will only awkwardly upload photos one at a time via email).

As you can see, my sons were excited to help me.  My oldest, Karson, who turns 15 soon, has been wanting to learn how to do everything, so I’ve taught him how to use the drill press, grinder, cutter, portable drill, sander and even the arc welder.  That’s been a priceless joy for me.

I’m hoping to get it running on my return from Seattle (Monday June 29 – Friday July 5) before my kids leave in mid-July.

Hey Dave, Damn that jeep looks familiar. The headlights on Dads jeep were moved after Mom rolled at the real northend race in bellingham 1983, the grille was replaced with a new one from Don Prine and the headlights were moved to clear the new radiator he installed. What about the cage on your new rig? are you going to summer convention ? it will the 40th one for the Carters.

    Hi Steve,

Aha … well, that explains the headlight change. Thanks!

I can’t speak for the jeep, but I’m sure I can make it and hang out for the weekend (http://www.pnw4wda.org/events/summer_convention/index.htm). The jeep’s getting close though ….

Well, I personally like the wider look of the headlights, which is why I spread mine wide as well.

Have any updated pics of Tim’s jeep I can show readers?

(reader note: Steve and his brother Tim grew up in the back of Otis as part of the Wandering Willys Jeep Club — lots of miles logged in the back seats jeeping and the front seats racing — and many more hours in the garage on their own jeeps)
