I made it back to Pasco today after a few days with my kids in Salt Lake. Karson, my oldest, has become an avid rock climber, so he invited me to the Front Climbing Club where I showed my age … In fact I think I was the oldest person there!

Having never climbed, I gave it a go. It was not pretty, but I made it a little ways. I had plenty of arm and hand strength, but the holds that required a couple fingers doomed me.2017-11-06-climbing2

Hummmm….OK. I got it. This is a fake pics, right? No rope or safety features…Is it a pics from an elevated area of you on a floor? Lol!

Right on. Gym climbing is a weekly thing for me here in SF. It doesn’t take to long to learn some technique and start to master the harder climbs. Regarding age, one of the guys I climb with is 75 and has had double hip replacements. Thanks for posting the transfer case inquiry,

Pascal: This section has no ropes. I might be 6ft off the soft, padded ground. So, no, I wasn’t very high 🙂

Steve: My son told me there are some gym regulars who are in their 70s and can scramble up these walls. My finger strength was my biggest issue. Also, I need to get my knees repaired (too much basketball), so I have to be careful about dropping off the wall if my fingers didn’t hold. As long as I had hand-holds I could ascend easily.

Next time try top roping with your son, where if you come off, you are lowered slowly to the mat. That allows you to to push yourself and not worry about falling. Finger strength comes pretty quickly with practice and will make you a better mechanic!

    Cuidado
When I was managing an estate outside Philadelphia years ago a doctor who lived bordering the estate was on a 6′ step ladder picking cherries and fell off and died.

    Never pick cherries.

Good job Dave. It will make your son respect you more because you wont be an “old man”. As far as the 75 yr old with double hip replacements, I do have to wonder if that came before or after falling off the wall.

Yeah I agree Lew, I learned through hard knocks early in life about ladders and picking cherries. I almost died from it. Thank God above the pissed father missed with that single shot scatter gun. And i was to fast for him to get a second round off. Whew! By the way I think Spidey looks good on that wall.
