This looks like it has the early M-38A1 hinged grille. It appears to be a reasonable price.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5000.
“Restoration started – the expensive work is done! Recent rebuild on engine, body and paint work has been done.

“Here we have I think is a military M38A1 ?? Data tags read 8 / 53 dont know much about it. Runs good, will need a
tune up. Has a 134 F head engine with a T 90 3 speed trans which will need rebuilt.. Body is not bad for its age . frame is solid…. $1000.00 OBF”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
There seems to be a few items missing from this.
“For your consideration a VERY RARE 1955? Willys M38a1″D” army jeep in partially restored condition. Good running, with new brakes and civilian F-head motor, without the 24 volt accessories The frame is nice along with the suspension modifications… Body has the original cut down and reinforced side, along with side mounted spare reinforcements. Missing the dash plates..
You dont find these jeeps too often with only few in existence. ONLY 50 or so ever made! Your chance to own the rarest of the “A1″ series jeeps. This vehicle needs to be completely torn down, and restored properly. Floor boards will probably need replacement, as well as some body panels. Amateur restoration was done years ago to prevent further deterioration. Looks nice now, but is not professionally done.”
Not pretty but has full cages and runs.
“1954 Willys Jeep runs good, pretty solid. Good condition for it’s age. 1-920-296-9012”
There might be some value here.

The pullbar and winch might be worth $400 by themselves.
“i am selling my 1953 willy’s Jeep. No motor included. Motor is rebuilt and still in the shop approx. $ 1500 to get it out. Has tops windshield and numerous parts to go with it”
This doesn’t run. Mark has this listed over at Sellajeep.com.

Still runs.
“1954 Willys Jeep 4×4. Runs and drives good. It is in very good condition for it’s age. Alot of fun. 1-920-296-9012”
This is a little rough, but looks complete. Mark has it listed at warjeeps.com.
“Willys Jeep, model M38A1. She runs but needs a bit of body work. Been sitting for a while now and needs batteries but with a little love, this would be a perfect hunting partner. UPDATE: **SOLD** Were $3000.

“Willys Jeep, model M38A1. She runs but needs quite a bit of body work. Been sitting for a while now and needs batteries but with a little love, this would be a perfect hunting partner. I do not have the specifics but I think it was built in 1953, plus or minus a couple of years.”
This is being swallowed by the bushes. Oh no!
“50’s jeep all parts there does not run $500 best offer call Chris at 314-280-1752”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1400
(04/15/2011) What is that on the hood?
“1953 Willys military Jeep. My father-in-law had this surplus Jeep turned into a hunting Jeep complete with a marine plywood dog box. It always ran great, but unfortunately I never started it up after he gave it to me eight years ago. It was stored outside for much of that time, but is now stored inside.
This is a historical model. The M-38A1 was the military equivalent to the civilian CJ-3. 1953 was the first year of the M-38A1. The CJ-3 didn’t come out until the following year. Definitely a collectors item for Willys Jeep fans.”
Some good work appears to have been done.
“Looking for a project? I started restoring this M38A1 Jeep, but haft to sale. Over $8000.00 invested. Tub boby painted inside and out. 283 chevy small block, floating rear axle, 3 speed, overdrive, 4 wheel hi/lo & transfer in/out. trans rebulit. New tires. $2000.00 obo. ALAN 951-795-2630.”

“has ford 260 v8, 4wd hi and lo, 3 speed, have new windshild and frame, bought for a mud or woods vehicle but i have to many already. has clean title. would trailer home”
UPDATE: Price bumped to $1800.
(05/17/2011) This looks great for the price, though this appears to be a M-38A1 body on an earlier frame.
“1951 Willy’s M38 A1 Jeep for sale. Runs and drives. New snow tires so can be driven or towed. New Solex carburetor. Have a few spare parts including original air cleaner. Have not found any rust in body except in rear deck by rear seat. I believe a previous owner has done the body work as the body is straight and clean. Stock gauges in-op. Transmission, transfer case and differentials are tight. Over the last three years I have taken it on a half dozen 40 mile back road trips with no problem

Call 208-628-2767 (mornings or evenings) $1800 or make offer.”
Here’s a highly modified M-38A1 spotted by Tommy.
“1953 WILLYS JEEP. Custom built with 350 Chevy V8 and 350 Turbo Transmission. The front end is from a later CJ model. The frame and tub look very clean and show very little wear and no rot. This vehicle has only been driven approx 2,400 miles since the engine/trans were installed and it was repainted in PPG bright red. It also has independent coilover suspension in the front, so the ride isn’t punishing. It has 20 inch chrome wheels with nice tires, a dual exhaust system, and custom guages. The previous owner also had a local Jeep fanatic shop make a custom soft top with soft doors (see pics). This Jeep turns heads and is fun to drive.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was No Prices.
It appears there are a couple M-38A1s and at least one M-38.
“Beautiful World War Jeeps, Classic sets that appear just like it was back in 1951. Run Wonderfully. Clean Body. Excellent Condition! Extraordinary feeling when seeing it in action! Great For collector, to display at shows, movies, parades! Feel free to visit and take a look! 🙂 ”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2700
(04/12/2011) It doesn’t run, but looks pretty stock (except for the engine as noted by Javier).
“JEEP: WILLYS 1953 Military Model M38A1 with clean AZ title. Jeep has M38 Military engine and original 24 volt electrical system. Engine does run — not currently running since vehicle has sat a long time. This jeep is a restoration / rebuild project. Nearly all original military parts intact. Extras included with Jeep: manuals, complete drum to drum front axle assembly, steering gear box, lights, data plates”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1800.
This looks like a good restoration candidate.
“Over 95% original military m 38a jeep. Has been sitting for over 10 years. Also have some extra parts. Clean az title. Serious inquiries only.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2950.
This looks solid. Remove the cammo and this might look pretty good.
