Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have a 1946 Willys cj2a Jeep with all matching numbers and title. I have owned this for probably around 8 or 9 years I have worked on it off and on and have also had a lot of work done to it . it has all original drivetrain…. It will start and run but would have to be trailered. I do not have the time to finish this up. does not lack much to be considered a full restoration all the parts are there… Anyone that knows anything about these would understand that I have way more invested than what I’m listing it for… I would consider trades Golf Cart …etc.. “Looking to sell a ’48 willys not running, but can run with minor work. can drive with some time. it has a ford 302 small block v8, and sits on 31 inch wildcat ext tires on dana 44 axles and a dana spicer model 18 transfer case. the carburetor sitting on it is a 2 barrel holly although it is missing some small parts. I do still have the old one in a box. i also have an overdrive for it in a box. the entire floor is lined with boat carpet. the front seats require new hold down hardware and the bikini top could be more secure.”

(12/01/2014) This CJ is a mix of parts. Includes a hoist off the front bumper.
“I’m selling or trade a 1947 Jeep Willys Army green. Original motor and original body frame. It is a classic and runs. It does have an oil leak on the oil pan gasket. Rust on the undercarriage which is expected due to the year but a sand blast can take care of that. Great project car for Veterans or can be used in parades.”

Original Willys flat head 4 cylinder engine (Runs Great). Transmission rebuilt appx 2 years ago, (Shifts Great). 4X4 works awesome. Nice Beefy off road tires on Chrome spoke wheels. Seats in great shape, no rips or tears. Tow Bar. New exhaust. Just a great old Jeep that will climb a wall.”

It’s an ex-forestry jeep.
“Mostly complete. Will need a complete restoration or would make a good parts vehicle to complete a restoration already in progress. It has frame rust through on drivers side (shown in picture) but it could be repaired. The transmission moves freely. The motor is in unknown condition and will not turn. At one time this jeep was in the forestry department (shield and numbers shown in picture). What is shown in picture is all that is available. Pictures reflect condition. Lots of work has been done. Engine smokes.
“This 1947 Willys Jeep belonged to my father, who recently passed away. He has had it since 1960. He used it for hunting. He stored it in 1971. In 2013 he decided to get it running again. When he bought it, the original flat head “Go Devil” engine was replaced with a 1953 F-head “Hurricane” engine. Has hole cut in hood because Hurricane engine is taller than Go Devil engine.

We took it to a collector car shop in Sacramento, California, to start the project. We had all the brake components changed. Master cylinder, all brake lines, all brake parts, wheel cylinders, drums etc. It has new fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump and rebuilt carb. Valve job with all new valves, guides, etc. Converted to 12 volt system. All new bulbs and light fixtures in rear. New 12 volt alternator, and 12 volt gear reduction starter. New water pump, rebuilt radiator. Converted to positive crank case ventilation.
All new steering box, steering column and steering wheel. Recovered seats. Engine starts and runs nice, but smokes a little when driven. Bottom end of engine probably needs attention. We have suspension parts, leaf springs and shocks, still in boxes. This project still needs to be finished. We are looking to get back a fraction of the money invested in this project. Needs lots more work. If you have questions, I will try to get answers. The paperwork and plates on this vehicle are current.”
