UPDATE: Still available. Better pics.
The bumper doesn’t look stock. For the price, it’s a bit rough.

This is a non runner. This seller also has this MB for sale and this non-running CJ-2A jeep for sale.
“1952 M-38 Military Jeep,Complete Engine and Running Gear, Body in Decent Shape, Runs But Not Currently Running, Good Restoration Project, $1500.00, Call Todd – Please Leave Message, 706.633.6072”
Note that the rollcage connects to the windshield rather than the floor of the body. That said,
“LOWERED THE PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This 1951 M38 Jeep, is rare and in GREAT shape, (NO RUST, or Major body damage). $3,000.00 OBO- I have had it for several years stored in my shop, the only changes I have made to it are: new paint, different seats, air tank adaptor at rear bumper). UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7000
I like a lot of things about this jeep, but I don’t get the bumpers — those are bumpers, aren’t they? As far as I know, M-38s were stopped in ’52.
“1953 Jeep Willys M-38, Buick V6 “Dauntless” Engine, Warn Overdrive Trans, external mounted power steering box!, 4-wheel drum brakes, rebuilt 4-barrell Holley Carb, aluminum race headers, new high performance cam and lifters, aluminum radiator, MSD Ignition!, K&N air filter, chrome thru-out interior and undercarriage and engine compartment, cloth/vinyl seats, Goodyear Wranlger CSA (very nice and expensive), brand new skyjacker (red) shocks, powdercoated frame, rear under floortub foam fuel cell, race seatbelts, emergency brake, 3 speeds with high and low and a 4×4 high and low, custom guages, hidden kill switch, key ignition, military fog lights, FULLY LINEX-D CUSTOM ROLLCAGE AND TUB BOLTED TO FRAME”
It appears this is either a M-38 body or a replacement body. For $300 it looks like it has a variety of parts, including an almost full cage.
“it’s got a great body on it, very straight. I don’t have the title for it, but it’s a great jeep for parts or whatever you wanna do with it.”
“1952 Willys Jeep M-38 Buick 231, HEI Ignition, New flowkooler Water pump, GM 14 amp alternator, TH400 auto & Dana 20 out of Wagoneer, Centered Dana 44 rear, Dana 30 front Full rollcage and harnesses. Rollcage is now painted olive drab along with back tube bumper and star on hood. Also now has 31×10.5 tires on black spoke wheels.”
Are those some kind of blackout headlights? I haven’t seen those before. There’s a few minor things to quibble with, but it sure looks great. I really have to start building that eWillys travel budget!
“ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, REAR AXLE ALL REBUILT, CORRECT FORDING EQUIPMENT, BLACK LIGHT, RIFLE RACK,CORRECT ENGINE,CORRECT RIMS, NEARLY EVERYTHING IS CORRECT, THERE ARE A FEW THINGS, THAT ARE NOT QUITE MODEL CORRECT BUT ARE REALLY CLOSE, NEW RADIATOR, NEW TYRES ….”
The pictures show the jeep is all together, but from the seller’s comments I think it is still apart?
“I have a 52 Willys Jeep Started restoration but never finished. It has a Ford V 6, Holly two Barrel, Hooker Headers, MSD ignition, new bucket seats, after market dash, Just to much to list. Topper is in perfect condition. Please Contact me at (303)978-1083 Will not respond to E Mails so don’t try. Mark”
This jeep looks like it rides a little high. Either it’s got re-arched springs or tall shackles.
“This rig replaces the standard engine with a 1972 Ford Pinto 2.0L engine for extra kick! Installed are a FRESH TRANSMISSION and a FRESH TRANSFER CASE!!! Aftermarket shocks are installed both front and rear, and combined with the installed front hub locks and front hitch, makes this a great basic off-roading package! Comes with an aftermarket rollbar, set of 5 original military tires, an original military gas can, and set of 4 Super Swamper 32″ off-road tires”
“I have for sale a 1953 m-38 willys jeep. Original engine runs good. Body in good shape for a jeep of this era. Sorry not interested in any trades.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5000. Has a replacement body.
The seller lists two different prices for this M-38. Strangely, the dashboard looks like a M-38, but there are no passenger side cutouts and no battery cowl lid.
“1952 Willis Jeep. Runs good and has a sound body. All gears are good. Enclosure included (soft top and sides). Removable back seat, gun rack, and tow bar. The vinyl seats are cracked, as is the windshield. This Jeep was restored before I bought it and has locking hubs and wide tires. (I have two of the original tires and rims.) I have owned it for 10+ years and used it for hunting, playing, etc. It is kept in a shelter. Due to infrequent use, I am willing to part with it. $5000 Cash OBO”
It’s a nice looking jeep. Note that it has a M-38 body, so maybe this is a M-38 or maybe it’s just a M-38 on a CJ-3A drive train.
“Nice 1951 Willys CJ3A frame / M 38 Millitary tub / Fresh 350 motor / 400 turbo trany / Dana 30 front end / Dana 20 transfer case / AMC 20 rear end / Paint is ok, has some chips and spiders / Have a nice top / Runs & drives great! Lots of fun!! $8,000.00 OBO Thanks, Dave 503 320-0620”
This is a very good price on a running M-38. Is that the driver-side step hanging off the body?
“Cheaper than a 4 wheeler and alot more fun! Engine rebuilt, brakes good
608-792-6930”
This might be a pretty good price. Only one pic, but I don’t see any serious issues.
“1952 WILLY M-38, ASKING $4000, BODY GOOD RUNS GOOD, FOLLOWING PARTS AREA ALL NEW, ALTERNATOR PLUGS, DISTRIBUTOR OIL PUMP, CARBERATOR PLUG WIRES, GAUGES TIE ROD, SPEEDOMETER BALL JOINTS, BRAKES WHEEL CYL, TIRES GAS TANK, HAVE ALL SEAT AND ROOF FRAMES.”
This seems like a good price on a running M-38.
“Original L head, runs. It’s going to sit and rot with me so am selling. It’s in Grand Junction so easy to see. Yes title is good and in my name. Great Flatfender, military Korea timeframe with dana 44 rear T18 and T90. Trade for restoration work on my 1972 F-250 highboy, needs new wooden bed and various dent’s rust spots. May trade for trailer, or Jeep TJ parts, Dana 44’s, winches, bumpers”
This M-38 looks great. It seems to be missing the high beam switch(?), but appears very complete otherwise.
“You are looking at a “Ground Up Restoration” of a 1952 Willys M38 Jeep. This Vehicle is in Museum quality and Authentic (Period Correct) to the last possible detail. Runs and looks flawless! This is EASILY the most authentic, best running and best looking on eBay.
Original Fording Gear included but not pictured. Production Date and Serial Number: 6/52 #71442 If you have any questions please call 607/594-3656 and ask for Steve. Evenings are best. You may also email me at: appleacres51@yahoo.com”
This looks to me like it’s original, that it’s never been restored. Given it appears to have under 10k miles, it seems to be an uncommon find.
“1952 M38 original condition except for 12v conversion. Was Stored in warehouse for over 30 years. Has some rust. Still has 1952 tires on it, original military markings and less than 11,000 miles on odometer which appears to be original miles based on the way it runs and drives. Have new gas tank but have not installed it…”
You can view more information about this M-38 at the Willys Tech Board
This M-38 looks to be in very good, unrestored condition. If you like M-38s, this one might be worth checking out.
“ALMOST ORIGINAL, EXCEPT FOR 12 VOLT SYSTEM. VERY RARE ORIGINAL ALUMINUM TOP WITH DOORS. LOOKS AND RUN GREAT. CALL OR EMAIL. SIMON 206 730-9433. SARIE 206 719-0119”
For a body that is ‘very, very solid’ the interior sounds and looks a bit rough.
1952 Willys M38. It is in great condition. Ive owned this jeep since 1989 and have taken great care of it. I have put many hours into modifing and maintaining this Jeep. The body is in great condition, very very solid and very very clean. THere are some spots where there is some rust. All panels where the body meets have a rubber gasket between them. This has helped preserve the jeep over the years and it has done a great job. The driver side floor board has been replaced years ago and could use a little attention under the seat The floor where the driver puts his feet is in great shape with no rot thru … ”
It appears a bit dirty, but this might be a pretty solid flattie.
“This Willys Jeep is in excellent condition for its age. Absoultely no rust on this jeep. The jeep has a small block 327 with a four bolt main. The strongest engine you will find. It has a 2″ suspenison lift and a 3″ body that were installed this past summer. The tires are pro comp X-terrians that measure 33×12.5. The rims are powder coated black and have no more than 500 miles on the tires. The jeep was painted this last summer when the lift was installed. It has a full custom roll cage and a new cb and antenna. The 12,000lbs. mile marker winch may or may not be inlcuded in the sale, depends on the negioated price. Many new summit parts. This jeep will climb with any toyota out there.”
“1951 WILLYS JEEP M38 – $8,000.00 OBO. 26k miles. Third owner (first owner was the US Army), kept in the barn, runs and drives great, 7.50×16 tires. Everything is ORIGINAL to the jeep (OD green paint still underneath) except the carburetor/air cleaner, top, seats. Have the backseat also. Great piece of history – absolutely a blast to drive – gets lots of attention wherever it goes!!”
Jim writes that this jeep came with a “Big 4 bolt camaro 350 V8, auto trans, power steering, disc, later model CJ5 running gear, M38 33/10/15 muds etc. Still have the beast, havent decided what to do with it but its a ton of fun and a handful with all that power!”
This is a good looking M-38. It looks like it’s ready for the trails.
“Jeep military flatfender low hood great body motor is out (Chevrolet V-6) it has dana 44’s front and rear. warn 8000# winch, with remote all parts to put together so I was told and it looks like it does. Roll cage one of the nicest uncut bodys I have seen no rust the hood needs a little work but a easy fix. disk front brakes someone in a club originaly put this Jeep together. Saginaw trans.& Dana 20 transfer case. “
FINAL UPDATE: Melanie has sold her Jeep. Congratulations!
Melanie provided some interesting information she gleaned from the sale of her jeep. Most notably, when comparing ebay, craigslist, and auto trader, Melanie felt like she got by far the most quality responses from the auto trader magazine.
She also reports:
“What I experienced while trying to sell the jeep may not be new to others, but was an eye opener for me!
I had one guy tell me that I had misrepresented the jeep and that I didn’t know what I was talking about. He basically was trying to bully me into lowering my price. I did a lot of research before I ran my ad to make sure that everything I stated was true and accurate. Still, it was unpleasant being called a liar.
Another guy was a smooth/fast talker and very aggressively insisted that I had agreed in a previous phone conversation to sell him the jeep for way below my asking price. While he was talking circles around me, I started thinking to myself “wow, this is what it’s like to be scammed!” The conversation ended with me saying “uh, wait…” and him saying a check is in the mail *click*. I returned his check via certified mail.
On a positive note, I’ve talked to a lot of great jeep enthusiasts from all over the United States. The majority have been polite and pleasant to talk to. The ad I ran in the Auto Trader Classics magazine generated a lot of serious inquiries. It was much more productive than e-bay or craigslist. ”
Thanks for info Melanie!
**SOLD**
It’s got a few dings and plenty of dust, but it appears sound, complete and stock.
