The overdrive will get you down the freeway and the 5:38 gears + the winch will get you through the trails.  Nice.

“I’ve had this jeep for about 17 years. In 1996 I decided to bring it back to its military look with some extras. I had the motor and trans. rebuilt and the t case inspected and resealed. The motor is not original,it has a 1964 buick 225 v6. The rest of the drive train is original military issue as far as I know with the addition of a Warn overdrive and a Lockrite locker in the rear dana 44 with 538 gears. The overdrive gives an extra gear in all 3 spds and is great for highway speeds and allows you to keep up with traffic at 65+mph.”

I’m not convinced this is actually a complete vehicle, given it appears the front driveline is missing.  If the lift was reduced significantly, as well as the price, then the chances of a sale will likely increase.  On the plus side, the body/hood/fenders look straight and the engine has been nicely fitted into the engine compartment.

This M-38(?) was just auctioned for $5500 on Monday on ebay, so it’s no longer for sale.  The strange thing to me is that it appears to be a M-38, with the glove box and the passenger side cutouts, but it doesn’t have a tail gate or the battery box on the passenger side.  Anyone have thoughts on why that might be?

An ewillys reader named Paul is selling a 1951 M-38.  With only 8,700 original miles, it’s in excellent shape.  He’s asking $11,500.

“I have a 1951 willys M38 army Jeep for sale that only has 8,700 original miles.  It is in very good shape with no damage or rust to the body.  The paint is also very good.  The jeep has underwater equipment, though I don’ t know if it is complete, but it appears complete to me. This seller has plenty to say about this jeep.  The seller states “Value with basic OD paint and canvas for the top and seats and some basic parts ($2000 invested). —$6000 – $8000 on ebay.”  This may be true, but it underestimates the amount of work necessary.  That said, it sounds like there is a good deal of original m38 here.
