I like a lot of things about this jeep, but I don’t get the bumpers — those are bumpers, aren’t they?  As far as I know, M-38s were stopped in ’52.

Are those some kind of blackout headlights?  I haven’t seen those before.  There’s a few minor things to quibble with, but it sure looks great.  I really have to start building that eWillys travel budget!

This jeep looks like it rides a little high.  Either it’s got re-arched springs or tall shackles.

The seller lists two different prices for this M-38.  Strangely, the dashboard looks like a M-38, but there are no passenger side cutouts and no battery cowl lid.

“1952 Willis Jeep. Runs good and has a sound body. All gears are good. Enclosure included (soft top and sides). Removable back seat, gun rack, and tow bar. The vinyl seats are cracked, as is the windshield. This Jeep was restored before I bought it and has locking hubs and wide tires. (I have two of the original tires and rims.) This seems like a good price on a running M-38.

“Original L head, runs. It’s going to sit and rot with me so am selling. It’s in Grand Junction so easy to see. Yes title is good and in my name. Great Flatfender, military Korea timeframe with dana 44 rear T18 and T90. Trade for restoration work on my 1972 F-250 highboy, needs new wooden bed and various dent’s rust spots. May trade for trailer, or Jeep TJ parts, Dana 44’s, winches, bumpers”

This looks to me like it’s original, that it’s never been restored.  Given it appears to have under 10k miles, it seems to be an uncommon find.

For a body that is ‘very, very solid’ the interior sounds and looks a bit rough.

1952 Willys M38. It is in great condition. Ive owned this jeep since 1989 and have taken great care of it. I have put many hours into modifing and maintaining this Jeep. The body is in great condition, very very solid and very very clean. THere are some spots where there is some rust. All panels where the body meets have a rubber gasket between them. This has helped preserve the jeep over the years and it has done a great job.  The driver side floor board has been replaced years ago and could use a little attention under the seat The floor where the driver puts his feet is in great shape with no rot thru … ”

It appears a bit dirty, but this might be a pretty solid flattie.

“This Willys Jeep is in excellent condition for its age. Absoultely no rust on this jeep. The jeep has a small block 327 with a four bolt main. The strongest engine you will find. It has a 2″ suspenison lift and a 3″ body that were installed this past summer. The tires are pro comp X-terrians that measure 33×12.5. The rims are powder coated black and have no more than 500 miles on the tires. The jeep was painted this last summer when the lift was installed. It has a full custom roll cage and a new cb and antenna. The 12,000lbs. mile marker winch may or may not be inlcuded in the sale,depends on the negioated price. Many new summit parts. This jeep will climb with any toyota out there.”

“1951 WILLYS JEEP M38 – $8,000.00 OBO. 26k miles. Third owner (first owner was the US Army), kept in the barn, runs and drives great, 7.50×16 tires. Everything is ORIGINAL to the jeep (OD green paint still underneath) except the carburetor/air cleaner, top, seats. Have the backseat also. “Jeep military flatfender low hood great body motor is out (Chevrolet V-6) it has dana 44’s front and rear. warn 8000# winch, with remote all parts to put together so I was told and it looks like it does. Roll cage one of the nicest uncut bodys I have seen no rust the hood needs a little work but a easy fix. disk front brakes someone in a club originaly put this Jeep together. Saginaw trans.& Dana 20 transfer case. “

It’s got a few dings and plenty of dust, but it appears sound, complete and stock.

The overdrive will get you down the freeway and the 5:38 gears + the winch will get you through the trails.  Nice.

“I’ve had this jeep for about 17 years. In 1996 I decided to bring it back to its military look with some extras. I had the motor and trans. rebuilt and the t case inspected and resealed. The motor is not original,it has a 1964 buick 225 v6. The rest of the drive train is original military issue as far as I know with the addition of a Warn overdrive and a Lockrite locker in the rear dana 44 with 538 gears. The overdrive gives an extra gear in all 3 spds and is great for highway speeds and allows you to keep up with traffic at 65+mph.”
