Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1953 WILLYS M38A1 MILITARY JEEP 35,300 MILES VGC
For sale is an original 1953 Willys Military M38A1 Jeep. I obtained this Jeep from the McClure Fire Department in Ohio several years ago. It was occasionally used to plow their parking lot and was stored indoors for the most part. It still has many of the military accoutrements such as the convoy blackout marker lights, H.D. bumpers, waterproof ignition, 24 V. electrical system and illuminated high/low red dash lighting.

This has not title. It is listed as a 1952 (probably just a guess), but more likely mid 1953 or later.

“I have a 1953 Willys M38A1 Military Jeep. It is complete and registered in California. I have the pink slip and you can drive it away. Brakes have been redone and a new high performance starter has been added. The 1953 Military Jeep has a few unique features including a tilting radiator support and a battery box with 8 thumb screws. A few safety features added including removable roll cage and seat belts. This jeep is mostly original condition and is a very fun vehicle. It was converted to 12 volt system. Don’t be fooled by people who claim they have a military jeep and it’s just a CJ with green paint. Has a few oil leaks but runs well. I am selling it for $5400 obo.”

“1952 Model, first year for the curved front fenders. Serial #MD18104, 21,680 original miles, 24 volt system, black out lights work. This Jeep is in very good condition. I have original four tires and gas can, all stamped 1952. It now has new Firestone military tires and spare. Very dependable. Canvas top and seat covers in very good condition. “Jeep looks and runs great. Has the 134 Hurricane water tight engine. I purchased it three or four years ago from a guy in SC and from what I can tell it has not been striped and rebuilt. Of course parts have been replaced over the years. I have put new front end parts on it such has tie rod ends and ball joints as well as breaks, fuel sending unit, and added the snorkel, tail pipe extension and fording plate and cable. I have the two fording valves but did not put them on as you can’t see them and I would never attempt to put this in the water just due to it age.
The jeep has all the canvas and can be fully enclosed or open it up and drop the windshield in the summer for a really fun ride. I also have a military winch that will fit on the jeep and run off the PTO however the winch needs to be rebuild and I have never got around to it but will include it if you purchase the jeep. The jeep does have a fully functioning PTO but would need the forward shaft to connect it to the winch.
I have no idea of the mileage as the speedometer was not working when I purchased it but I was able to fix it.”
It’s got a fiberglass body. Looks like solid vehicle for the price.
