Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. There’s some good updates to this jeep and it looks good too, but there’s also some unmentioned items that need fixing.

While it doesn’t appear to be in perfect condition, it does appear to be in very good, completely stock condition. This appears to be an excellent restoration candidate.
“This is a very rare Jeep, Built in Jan 1943 for the military to be used during World War 2, very solid, only a few small rust spots, very original with combat wheels, original seats,spare tire mount, jerry gas can mount,original ftathead 4 cyl engine and 3 spd transmission.Has original 4X4 high/low range transfer case, very intact, needs glove box door, couple gauges, soft top and bows, all avaiable new reproduction, easy one to restore, engine spins free and was running 9 years ago when parked. This jeep has a tailgate and a later model grille,but no gas tank inlet. Maybe it’s a repro tub?
“1942 Willy’s Jeep flat head 4cyl in good condition, runs and drives. Reconditioned head, new head gasket, new spark plugs, new front brakes, new bearings/seals in front end, and rebuilt starter. The body has been recently painted and the seats have been recovered, and are in great shape. Aluminum wheels and 31″ procomp tires. Owner’s manual included.”

“Willys MB, WWII Jeep. Rough, but runs well. Can be restored to original. New wheel bearings & brakes. Some spares & WWII paint. 4 cyl, 3 speed 4WD.”
This MB looks like a play jeep. It does not appear to be licensed. I wonder if the stock axles were upgraded. I’d think that power and those tires would be hard on stock MB axles.

WILLY HAS A 283 CHEVY V-8 RUNS SMOOTH, QUIET,AND COOL. IT HAS HEADERS AND GLASS PACKS AND SOUNDS LIKE A V-8 SHOULD. IT HAS A 350 TURBO TRANSMISSION WHICH HAS BEEN REBUILT AND IS A STOCK TRANNY. THE REST OF THE DRIVE TRAIN IS STOCK I THINK? WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE 4X4 LOCK OUT HUBS. FOR ADDED DRIVE ABILITY I’VE ADDED A STEERING BOX WITH A GM POWER STEERING PUMP WHICH MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE IN MANEUVERING THE 31 X15 GOODYEAR TERRA TIRES ON 14 INCH WIDE STEEL RIMS.”
This is right over the hill from me. I really don’t know how rare these are, but I could run and pick it up if someone’s interested in it.
“Hard to find single rib Willys bell housing for 4 Cylinder L-Head (CJ2A, MB, GPW Jeep). I removed this from my GPW. It’s in good shape with no cracks. It will bolt up to a T90 and T84 transmission. It’s for the CJ2A jeep or early flat fenders. It includes the original inspection cover. Somebody drilled another drain hole in the bottom (see photo).”
It isn’t clear to me whether this runs or not.
“1942 Willies Military (Navy) Jeep complete with most original hardware. $1,700 includes extra engine. Ready for restoration.”
This appears to have a later model windshield. It’s hard to tell much else from the pictures.

I think the price is a bit high on this jeep, given it isn’t running and has no title, but if the price drops, this could be a reasonable project. It sounds like the project has a lot of new parts that just need to be put together, though I suspect, as usual, it will be a bit more complicated than that.

The jeep has a new tub which sits on the chassis but has not been bolted down though new rubber mounts and bolts included in the sale. The motor and chassis are 100% restored. The motor, transmission, transfer case and rear end were completely rebuilt. The brakes are complete including all new components and master cylinder including all steel and rubber lines. It has combat wheels on all 4 corners and original looking WW2 tires….”
Though it’s in ok condition, these don’t pop up everyday.
“I have a garaged Willys MB body for sale. It includes the speedometer and 3 of the 4 gauges. I am going away for school and would like to see this go to a good home. The body is in OK condition with some rust in the normal problem areas. The pictures aren’t the best, but I’ll answer any questions anyone may have.”
The image on the Ad was a bit dark, so I lightened up. I don’t see a Jeep, but I do see smoke.

The top on this MB is unusual. Is that a custom or aftermarket top? I can’t say for sure this is an MB, it’s just my guess.

This jeep is located on the Oregon/Cali border near highway 101, so the drive alone is worth getting the jeep. This doesn't look in too bad of shape. The seller describes the body as fair to poor, but I've seen many worse bodies than this one.

The seller states $12000 was spent on the restoration of this CJ-3A and that it will now go easily down Cali highways at 80mph. My response would be, for starters, how does the hood stay down at 80mph, because there is only a hood latch on the passenger side fender (none on driver side) and no latch receptacles on the hood. There's no mention of the MB body on this CJ-3A. The rear lights are missing on the driver's side. Rather than a CJ-3A, the grille appears to be a slat grille in the front (probably the most valuable part of this jeep). Caveat Emptor.

This old jeep has been lovingly professionally restored to better than new condition. I had power disk brakes, power steering, Ford 250 motor, and rancho suspension added recently. I also had the interior completely redone for $2200 with commercial grade heavy duty vinyl and super heavy duty rubber on the floors. I also had the jeep painted with a $5500 base coat clear coat paint job which looks fantastic. There's over $12,000 in restoration and now I've decided to sell it…."

“My friend is selling his 1942 Wily’s Jeep. it has a 6 cylinder over head valve Hurricane engine. All suspention springs have been redone. Rides nice! newer radiator. tune up, carb rebuild. good tires, licensed. clear title. Runs Great! No rust! This is a turn key jeep with Lots of power. I can send you pictures of anything you like to see on it. Very cool Jeep. hinden head lights from the military. 12 volt system. Ok, I like the big gun. Hard to find jeeps with big guns in them anymore. I know it says replica, but maybe it actually shoots?
"1945 Willys MB. This army jeep is ready for parades, shows, or just driving around. Comes with everything as shown, including .50 cal replica. With the exception of a later hood and T-90 transmission, this is a very complete (original) MB. The steering is tight, brakes are good, engine runs fine, and the tires are three years old. The four wheel drive is fully operational."
Someone's put time and money into this MB.

The seller claims this is a 1941 Willys, but I don’t see much MB left in this jeep. The rust looks more serious than suggested by the seller. This jeep sports a Studebaker flathead 6, which I know nothing about, but sounds fun.
“Old military jeep. Runs, brakes may need adjusting from sitting. Body has some typical rust but nothing that can’t be fixed. Has Studabaker Champion flathead 6, T84J trans. Dash tags and clear title. Tag dated 12/31/41. This comes with lots of spare parts. “Have a Willys MB project Jeep for sale, located in Las Vegas,NV. It has a 52 AZ title, it has a 45 frame tag. The unit is a Euro return the post war motor came with a rebuilt tag motor from Brussel Belgium and WOF bell housing these have been removed. I have a correct MB motor and bell housing for it now.
So far the trans + transfer case have been rebuilt plus a rebuilt steering box, new cord in radiator,steering box rebuilt,as is the Carburator, original fuel tank to replace the tank curently in MB, tank straps in place.
5 Combat Rims blasted and boxed, New “Firestone” tires from Coker tires , most parts are original and have reproduction parts for missing parts; bow brackets, top bow, repro temp and pressure gauges as is the speedo, repro spare tire mount and tire support, repro rear seat for exsample. Driver and passenger seat are original, original stamped pintle hook(spring needs repair) safety chain eyelets.”
I wandered across this website in 2008 that showcases old woodies. There’s a jeep section with a variety of woodies. The woodie at the bottom is made from an old MB/GPW.

"Here it is a small collection of the finished jeep throughout the summer of 2003. I logged over 2200 miles in "Phoebe" since her restoration was completed this early spring. I hope that everyone enjoys these pictures as much I do, I had a blast taking them. I had a great time and will forever remember this experience, its kinda like having a child I guess. I have one on the way so i will find out shortly what that is like. Everyone says its like owning a jeep, when you first get your jeep home everything is ah's and oo's.
