Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This trailer was donated for raffle by Al and Kelly Lehmann. They had it totally restored by Gary Wirth last fall. It was totally dismantled and rebuilt, including new bearings, brakes, wiring and tires.
Painted in 24087 color scheme. This trailer was not rusty before it was restored. It was a super clean trailer that came from a local city garage that always kept it inside. We have the original data plates and a new set of reproduction plates that will be added soon. Date of delivery is 10/52 and serial number 382368. The original manufacturer was Dunbar-Kapple. Between the cost of purchasing the trailer and the restoration, there is over $3000.00 invested. The wiining ticket holder will be responsible for picking up the trailer or shipping expenses. “I have a Willys Jeep trailer from the 50’s or 60’s it is the civilian model not the military one. It would be good for parts or restoration, let me stress that fact. It would need some welding and body work to make it nice again or you could use it for parts, it has good 16 in rims and the trailer landing gear. I do not have the tailgate for it. Based on the metal plate in the middle of the tailgate, I’m going to guess this is a Ben Hur Trailer. The Sears David Bradley Trailer looks very similar. I don’t not believe the fenders are original. The earlycj5.net site has a great page on the Ben Hur / David Bradley models. Does anyone know if the Ban Hur letters on the rear of the trailer are original?

Here’s an early trailer (based on the serial number).
“1942 Willys. Has several coats of paint and some rust, mostly complete. Floor has many small holes, otherwise appears solid. A tailgate has been cut, but it was “tastefully” done. Original data plate as far as I can tell. Plate and registered. See photos.”

“Very early civilian version of the venerable WWII Jeep trailer. Bantam lost the contract to make the Jeep, but they won the contract to make these trailers as a conciliation. This was made shortly after the war as a perfect trailer to use with the newly invented CJ Jeep.
This trailer is in very original shape. There are some bruises and rust. The rust is mostly contained to the floor. I tried to take pictures that represent the condition the best I can. If you would like more pics, just ask. I think that with a little bit of sweat equity, this would be a great little trailer. ”

Willy’s Trailer, made from the back half of a 1948 Willy’s Jeep. Has front cabinet with lid for storage, the original storage under the passenger seat in good shape, has 2″ ball hitch in front and 2″ ball for towing in rear. Has original 7.50″ x 16″ wheels with truck M&S tires. Set up for 6 pin wiring.
Want to sell as a set just in time for Hunting Season. Could also be a GREAT restoration project, just turning 50 years old “VINTAGE”. Asking $4500 for both – $4000 for Willy’s and $500 for trailer. “1947 T3C (C for civilian). Total restore. All rust holes fixed with metal, floor straightened, new frame. Fulton #6 coupler for 1 7/8” ball. Second right hand tail light added, can be 6 of 12 volts. 215 x 85 x 16 tires. Registration: can get homemade trailer registration if needed for whatever it costs. Axles had new seals and gaskets, bearings are good, new U-bolts. Vintage wiring throughout. Will need trailer plug. NICE!!
