Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. ” Up for auction is a solid start to a cool Rat rod! The project begins with a 1949 Willys pick-up cab w/attached short box mounted on a modified Model A chassis. The chassis has been Zd 4″ in front and 6″ in the rear and the cab has been dropped 6″ and 2″ has been removed from the bottoms of the doors and cowl. The front axle has split wishbone radius rods w/drop mounted spring perches and the original Willys steering box is already mounted. The rear is set up with new tubular radius rods w/brackets for 12″ coil-overs and has a 10 bolt Chevy rear-end. The cab has a full perimeter brace installed and both doors open and close correctly. Please keep in mind that this is a project, but it is also a great opportunity to start with a solid rolling chassis.”

It’s got a Willys Truck cab.
“This truck is a everyday driver if you want it to be.it is a lot of fun and a blast to drive.i traded my harley for this a couple weeks ago and now need to sell it to buy my 17 year old daughter a first car.i may trade this for a good clean,lower milage(less than 150k) car or small sub.it needs to be 2000-up and a automatic.may also trade for another classic car or hot rod,rat rod but must be pre 1972.i like all brands,models and years so send me some pics via tex.now lets talk about the truck.It is a 1953 willys pick-up cab,1941 international rear fenders,1959 volkswagon bug front fenders and all on a injected s-10 frame and drivetrain.i was going to put a small block and turbo 350 in it.we all know that they make small block mounts designed for the s-10 frame.the truck has led brake lights,power brakes,a very kool interior and much more.please understand that this is a rat rod and although it is put together very well it does squeak or rattle a little but its better than a lot I’ve seen.i have a piece of lexan to replace the red one in the back glass.nice wheels and tires are brand new with 50 miles on them.the chopped top looks kool and the body drop is right on time.”

“It is rough but appears to still be all there. Has the originall Super Hurricane motor and manual tranmission. Jeep has not been run in 10 or more years. Previous owner did say he put some oil down the cylinders before it was left siotting. Still will probably need some time patience to get it to free up. Feels like the motor is not turning over. till has the original 16″ wheels. Might even be the original tires as cracked and weathered as they are. Would have been a real nice set of old school snow tires if they were not so weathered.”

Here’s an unusually modified Truck (or wagon?) from the 10th Annual Car and Bike Show in Atlanta, GA last weekend. I found it on the American Resto Mods Facebook Site.

“This “Jeep” is in excellent condition. Having only 2 owners within the last 55 years it is obvious that it has been well taken care of and maintained. The first owner used the PTO to cut firewood on the farm. The current owner is a Jeep collector and has keep the truck stored indoors. “The pickup came originally with a four-cylinder, but a prior owner installed a 1964 Ford 262 cubic inch straight-six. This engine came only in Ford’s one-ton and larger truck series. The Willys has been stored since 1985. It has a clear title. After rebuilding the carb, cleaning the fuel-pump, replacing the plugs, adjusting the valve lash, and pulling the oil pan to clean it and the oil pump, the truck starts easily and runs very smooth. While the original engine used a mechanical clutch linkage, the six-cylinder uses a hydraulic clutch. Clutch and brake hydraulics are supplied by an old-style GM one-reservoir brake/clutch master cylinder (looks identical to a Raybestos part #MC34404). This master cylinder is dry and rust filled, so it will need to be replaced. So currently the Willys has no clutch or brake action (The parking brake works great!). The Willys has its original T-90 (3-speed, floor-shift) transmission, Dana-18 transfer case, Dana-25 front differential, and Timken (clam-shell) rear differential. The body is solid except for the outer floorboards (which need to be replaced), and some corrosion at the rear sides of the bed (refer to the photos). The electrical system seems to be 12 volt, although the wiring is mostly original. The coil has a resistor before it (like 12 volt) and the ammeter shows charging in the normal range (uses a generator).
As the Willys has NO clutch or brake hydraulics, IT MUST BE TOWED OR SHIPPED. It is sold AS-IS; NO WARRANTY.

This needs some brake work, but other wise looks solid. It’s been modified slightly, especially the running boards on the side. I think they look pretty good.

Here’s a nice wagon.
“1956 Willys 1 ton pickup truck in above average condition.
I bought the Willys 10 years ago from a local bodyshop that had it since new.
Since I have owned it the things that I had done to it.
Rebuilt the Super Hurricane 226 by local hotrod shop less 1000 miles ago.
Had same shop install a Warn overdrive from the day and converted to a 12 volt system.
Had a paint job by local painter.
Had anything that I could get chromed -chromed.
Powdercoated all 5 original wheels with silvertone .
Had installed 5 nondirectional tires less than 1000 miles ago.
Radiator rebuilt by local shop.
Bed was lined also.
Interior has headliner,visors, original rubber floor mat ,and adjustible seat with the lumboard system. Thats what I call it.
Extra parts- oil bath filter system, front beauty bars , old generator ,antenna ,and truck bed end covers already powdercoated.
Have original owners manual and a shop manual.
Truck has a few scratches in the paint from using it.
Drivers side door area has some surface rust under the floor trim .
This is a great little truck does well in car shows and parades.
