1942 GPW Cumming, GA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), trailer • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

(10/23/2012) This has an unusual story.

“O.K. military personnel, here’s your chance to own an iconic piece of history. This is an authentic 1942 Military Jeep (Ford GPW); matching frame and I.D. Plate. This jeep is probably one of the numerous leftovers from World War 2, Asian theater, as it was rebuilt at the 229TH Ordnance Base Depot, Oppama Ordnance Shop (OOS), located in Japan.

I’ve been told that this was a former Japanese navy aircraft rebuild facility located in Yokohama, Japan and was converted to the 229TH Ordnance Base Depot, after the war; much of what they rebuild went to the Korean conflict. I corresponded with a soldier who was stationed there during that time period and he told me that depot rebuilds were performed at the component level; every piece removed and replaced. That may account for jeeps that we find with a mixture of GPW and MB parts on them. I’m not sure if that is when my jeep was fitted with the body tub and windshield for a recoilless rifle, but it is a recoilless rifle version although it has round buttons on the rear tool boxes which suggest it is a MB tub.

According to Fred W. Crismon’s book U.S. MILITARY WHEELED VEHICLES, recoilless rifles were first tried in April 1945 on flat fendered jeeps. It became more commonplace during the 1950’s on M38 (flat fendered) and M38A1 (curved fender) jeeps although my body tub still has the gas tank filler under the seat suggesting an earlier version. The open back of the body tub suggests to me that this tub may have been designed for use with the latter M79 mount instead of the earlier version M75A1 mount, but I don’t know.

Therefore, I can’t be sure when it was installed unless this information is part of the Ordnance Depot Job Order Number detail, and I’m not sure if that data is still available. I don’t have the recoilless rifle and mount, but they do appear for sale from time to time which would significantly increase the value of the jeep. Included with the jeep is an authentic tow bar and 1951 Dunbar trailer. I’ve been told that the trailer is a typical companion of a recoilless rifle for carrying ammo and ancillary items for operating the rifle.

Somehow the jeep ended up in the Greek Army and was then imported to the USA. This I believe to be true because we found Greek coins inside the tub. The jeep is drivable and I used it mostly for running errands. I’ve taken it to a couple of car shows and it cruises at 60 mph with no shake or shimmy. Every time I drive it people beep their horns, wave, crowd around it, and want to talk about it – really a lot of fun.

1951 Truck Washington, UT **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Willys Trucks • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This is a no-reserve auction. Needs a tiny bit of work.

“This rare classic is selling on a “No Reserve Auction”. The high bidder will absolutely win this truck.

Just got this rare truck in. Its a 1951 Overland Willys Jeep Flatbed Pickup. It appears to be in very good condition for the year. I have had a few of these throughout the years and they are getting harder to find and they sell fast.
This one starts right up and Purrs like a Kitten. No Smoke or engine noise and runs cool. It appears to me to be the original motor and it looks like it has been rebuilt or freshened up. It has good power for the size of the motor. The Truck drives very straight and no shakes or shimmies. It has new tires and nice aluminum wheels which greatly adds to the drive-ability. It appears that someone started to restore this and so it needs to be finished up, but the hardest parts of the restoration appear to be done. It would be a fun project and with a little work you could drive while you complete.
This would also be a great advertisement piece for your business, Imagine your company signs along the sideboards of the flatbed.
A couple of other things. It is a bit hard to shift into 2nd gear i’m not sure if its the clutch or what? I have talked to some people about it and they tell me that its my driving and that you have to “double clutch it” when you shift? Maybe you will know more about this than I do, however I wanted to disclose this. It appears that the previous owners have coated the flatbed and the floor boards with some type of coating. It looks nice and appears to be quite durable. I don’t see any major problems with rust, but there is some visible surface rust inside the door panels and on the roof on the inside of the truck (under where the headliner would be). The seat is not original but fits in the cab very well and looks good. I have the door panels that need to be covered and installed (see pictures) I also have some other misc parts that are in the picture that will go with the truck. It is missing the headliner. The headlights and taillights work but you will need to get the wipers working and a few other misc items.”

1953 M-38A1 Galena, IL **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: M-38A1 • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This is a no reserve auction.  It’s not perfect, but appears solid.

“We bought this Willys from the US Forrestry Department and painted it Army green. It runs great and is as solid a Jeep as you will find. When it was painted, there was absolutely NO rust repair. We’ve used it in a couple of parades and has sat in the barn now for five years. My wife says I’ve got to clean out the barn and and get rid of items I don’t use. It was fun to own but needs to go to someone who will appreciate it better.

I’m offering this for sale on ebay only and will not sell it outside the auction. We have a shipping company and can arrange shipping in an enclosed trailer for a fee. E-mail me your zip code for a shipping estimate. The spare tire is the original tire and I bought a new spare tire mount but never installed it. I’ll put a new battery in the Jeep when it sells. Good luck and thank you for viewing my auction.”

1951 CJ-3A Springfield, MA **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This looks like a nice CJ-3A.

“1951 Willys Jeep CJ3A. This Jeep is an absolute blast to drive.

It underwent a comprehensive restoration several years ago and is in excellent condition.

There have been under 800 miles logged since its restoration.

This is a CJ3A, civilian model, with an original Flat head 4 cylinder, Willys/Jeep engine, 3 speed manual transmission and manual, dual range, 4 wheel drive.

It was restored to original, unmodified condition, with as many original parts as possible.

I have been in the classic car business for 30 years and have never seen one of these done this nicely.

This vehicle runs so well I would bet it could be driven anywhere, as long as you do not need to go over 50 or so mph.”

Case Trapper Knife with Color Scrimshaw

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Was listed on eBay.

(10/24/2012) This is a new knife, not a vintage knife. I’m a bit surprised at the price, which is $142 as of this post. But then, I am no knife expert.

“A NEW In The Box Case XX Amber Bone Trapper Knife with A Color Scrimshaw Scene that I have just finished of an old Willys Jeep and a fisherman sitting on his Canoe. I signed and dated this knife on the bottom right. A Certificate of Authenticity that I will sign and date will be sent with the knife.

Please Note: When I do Color Scrimshaw, I do NOT paint the color on top of the design. I re-cut every line where each color is to go and apply those colors down into the cuts. This is a very time consuming process, but one in which I feel the results are well worth the added effort.

I have, in my opinion, a very low starting bid with NO RESERVE, so you collectors can decide what this knife is worth.

The knife measures: 4 1/8″ closed”

UPDATE: Was ‘For Trade’. **SOLD**

This seller has not put the title into his name yet.  This appears in good shape.

“I have a 1957 Willys DJ3A i would like to trade for a different project (i would like to get a 50s ford, chevy or dodge truck but will look at all), I have the original title in hand, i have not put it into my name yet because i was not sure what i was going to do with it and thought being the second owner of a rig meant something anyhow the Willys runs and drives, when i got it he started to convert it to 12 volt so it now runs and charges 12v but all the lights are still 6 volt so it will need to be rewired for 12v. it has min rust on the hood only the tub and rest of the body is straight with out rust. every thing other than the 12v system is original equipment. let me know what you have to trade, i would sell it but i cant seem to find a value on line for this to set a price so i will only trade for fear of getting the short end of the stick or giving someone els the short end.”
