Not too bad overall I’d say. Some non original stuff, but a couple neat fetures including keyed coil (removed, but owner had in his shop) and governor. Give the guy a call, he might come down on price. It’s been for sale a couple weeks now at $5,500.

HEY ROBERT IM CONSIDERING LOOKING AT THE JEEP IN MADISON. WHAT IS NON ORIGINAL AND IS THE TUB BEEN PATCHED? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP RALPH.

Ralph, the seats (front and back) are not original. Back seat was not secured and probably from another type of jeep. The front seats were out for reupholstery when I visited. There are some holes cut through the tub for the front seats and these connect to some extra framework on the underside of the jeep. This framework actually extends laterally under the jeep and sticks out to form side steps….none of that is original, but it didn’t look too bad. The frame has some weld work on the front near the horns. The body has been painted red and the floor is black. There’s a gas can mounted to back of tailgate. The engine head does not appear to be CJ2A, but rest of the motor engine serial number seem correct for a 1948 CJ2A. Regarding patching…possibly some bondo here and there, but I didn’t get my mangnet out. Also, one of the owner’s craigslist postings used to read “no rust.” He took this off in later versions. The jeep is not completely rust free. For example, the hat channels have rusted through in several locations. Overall, I’d say pretty solid. Worth $5,500? Let me know what you think.

Ralph, did you look at this jeep yet? Just wondered what you thought of it. Are you located in WI? I’m located in Deforest, WI (southern WI).
