Craigslist Joining SOPA Protest Wednesday Jan 18th

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

FYI:  As of the latest news I have,  Craigslist will go black on Wednesday.  I will update Tuesday night, but the links will probably not work all of Wednesday.  However, I won’t blacken eWillys.

Major sites such as WordPress, Craigslist, Wikipedia, and others will be joining the blackout.   I spent some time doing some research tonight, hoping to separate fact from hyperbole regarding the SOPA and PIPA legislation.  Based on what I’ve read about the way the legislation has been worded, both of these bills could be seriously misused.  Just look at this link to see how Senator Lamar Smith’s own website, the bill’s author, could be taken down permanently, because he has violated copyright law.

I fully support craigslist and the other websites shutting down over SOPA. Our (sarcasm) Congress has sold out once again to the special interests with big money. As the old saying goes “We have the best government money can buy”.

I agree. As a photographer, I get images stolen all the time, but for the government to shut these websites down is just beyond me. Piracy is a bad thing for those who work to create things, but it’s up to the creators to find a way to solve this.
