He writes, “Here’s a link from G503.com (from years ago) with lots of pics of a NOS engine found in the most unlikely of places…..  the warehouse of a company that made wooden shipping crates for the Army.  It’s an interesting story…..  especially for those restoring their M38’s back to original stock condition.”

    That engine with the ‘R’ stamped before the ‘MCXXXXX’ denotes that it was a rebuild. There’s probably a rebuild tag on the lower right side of the block by the starter.

    Really neat pictures…Makes you wonder what other treasures might be hiding in Detroit’s abandoned buildings that are being burned and demolished all the time now. I was there a few weeks ago and it was sad to see a once proud and bustling manufacturing section of a city all graffiti’d up and fenced off.
