Seems like we’re seeing more stories like this lately. I hope this makes people reconsider where they park their jeeps. Just because you don’t have a fully restored military jeep doesn’t mean the scrap metal thieves or the car strippers won’t be interested in your less-than perfect jeep, or any other classic car you might have.
This stolen jeep in this story was parked in an unwatched field. Nearer to the house or somewhere in sight no doubt would have been better.
One of the guys on the CJ-2a forum showed how he chained his steering wheel to the seat frame so it couldn’t be steered. If you were leaving it in a parking lot or street you could always chain an axel to a lamp post or something else immobile too.
I admit these precautions aren’t perfect but they might be enough to make a thief reconsider & move on.
Am I being paranoid? I hope not. I just really hate seeing thieves steal something that’s the result of anyone’s hard work, their investment, their pleasure away from them.
Maybe others have better ideas than this.
