    Not a 61, amazes me that people don’t know what they own. This one has the extended front grill which would indicate a 6 cylinder engine. The first mail Jeeps had 4 cylinder engines and appeared in the late 1960’s. Then somewhere along in the 1970’s The Post Office decided the 4 cylinder wasn’t powerful enough and that’s when the 6 cylinder became the standard engine. More trivia, but everyone knows I need to put my two cents in.

    I think by the time AMC got the bid for these DJ5s, they only had the 6 cylinder engine to put in them. The Peugot engines didn’t work out, I guess. Hence the extended grilles??
