Mike shared this photo from Facebook. Poor  jeeps! It might have originated here (a DJ-5 site)

Hard to believe they would scrap all those postal jeeps, maybe the right hand drive was a safety concern, seems like a waste.

several folks who drove a DJ-5 on a daily basis (postal workers) and one collecter I know claim it was hard to admire these unless you really enjoyed solving automotive mysteries constantly. Don’t know personally, but this photo is disturbing on several levels…

I can think of several uses for these, even if sold to a low bidder. It seems a terrible waste of taxpayer money. I know our little rural post office spent a fortune on two right hand drive brand new model jeeps that these would have worked fine for. Oh well, “free” money.

    Ronald,

I’m not sure where you are located, but if you are in the Southeast, you can try http://www.postaljeep.net. They are located in Alabama. Most likely, you’ll need to buy a used DJ-5.

    Best of luck,

When I was a manager for the City of Chillicothe OH, we had one for parking enforcement and one for parts. When it was time to replace it, the Postal system was no longer releasing them to anyone -individual or government agency alike. Said they were too dangerous (which they were). Whole parking lot full of them in the depot in Columbus OH to be crushed. I think it was probably people at Jeep wanting it done, just like they influenced the crushing of the M151s.
