UPDATE II: **SOLD** Was $3000.

UPDATE: Charles reports that Steve’s 1962 had the same Dispatcher sticker in a different place. My guess is that the sticker could be added to the jeep by the owner.

Doug spotted this one.

“1962 Willys 4 X 2 Jeep Dispatcher (DJ3) Right now the right fender and grill has been removed due to an altercation with a fence post!! Fender can be repaired but the grill was not repairable. I have a new old grill not a a reproduction for it. This jeep is all original with 21,000 original miles! It runs great but it needs some love!!! I’m asking $3,000 OBO!!'”

First time I have seen the “Jeep Dispatcher” logo, I assume a decal. Was that logo stock on late model Dispatchers.

I can’t remember seeing any other DJs with the Dispatcher logo there. I would guess that the owner put a decal on him/herself.

There are still a few surviving examples of that decal on DJ’s. SteveK’s open body with tailgate and a half top in Florida still had that exact same decal over surviving paint before he sanded and primed.

Colin had a reproduction of that decal made with more modern materials for his DJ. He has more experience than me. Especially as to details.

Over the years several other people I have talked to have expressed interest in these for their DJ’s. As do I once I get mine completed.

So yes, they are real but unknown to me if they were dealer or factory installed or even what models they might have appeared on.

If you look at some of the late 1950s factory photos of DJ3As, and some of the early Surrey prototype photos, you can see the Dispatcher decals. They were factory installed, but not every DJ3A got them (Surreys did not), maybe because the supply was low, the line guy was tired and ready to go for a cold one, or some other equally important reason! The decals were not always in exactly the same place, but very close to where this one is located and SteveK’s DJ has them very close to where this was located. When we placed the vinyl decals on Jim Sullivan’s DJ3A, I zoomed in on a factory photo and tried to get the decals in the same place they were on the factory installed decals. The place I had the decals made probably still has the artwork on file and if there is a demand, we can probably get them done again. I had two sets done originally, one in white for Jim’s DJ and one in black for Glenn’s bright yellow Miss Willy.

Count me in if anyone reproduces the decal. I don’t think it was on every DJ, but was more common on the actual “utility” dispatcher vehicles as opposed to the Surrey’s. I don’t have facts to substantiate my notion, but for some reason I’ve always believed that to be the case. Maybe I read it somewhere once?
