Was this out of an FC? I havent seen one of these OD before and assume the 3 spd was shifted via cables (?)

This either came out of a two wheel drive Willys station wagon or panel delivery after 1954. This combination was not used behind any factory 4 Wheel drive setup. The overdrive doesn’t have the rail switch which was eliminated sometime in 57 I think.

Lew- The Borg Warner overdrive unit was operated both electrically and with mechanical components. The transmission control arms were shifted by levers to a remote on the steering column which went to a column shifter. The overdrive had a cable that went to the dash. You could manually lock out the overdrive by pulling the OD button out towards the driver’s seat. That same button pushed all the way towards the dash allowed the overdrive to work through electrical connections to the firewall mounted relay, then to the solenoid, governor and kickdown switch located under the accelerator pedal.

    Dave and Colin-
Thanks for the detailed explanation. Didnt even notice it didnt have a transfer case. So with the switch under the accelerator, was it automatic by pedal depression or was the switch offset some so it could be selected at will?
