UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3800.

(06/19/2017) The Jeepney doesn’t run. The oil filter mount isn’t a triangle nor is it a circle. It’s an oval. What’s that from? It also has an interesting dash, too.

“This is for the Willys collector who thought they had everything. It’s an awesome project and you’ll be the hit of the show. Very complete and unusual. Does not run. Do not contact with offers to help sell. No trades.”

I went back through Dave’s files and found two M-38s that he ran back in May 22, 2017 and another on 12-28-2016, both had the same oil filter bracket with the oval hole. Both had non Fram filters attached to them however.

The modifications done to this Jeepney are numerous, but it looks very similar to most of the ones that came out of the Philipines in the 50s and 60s. Several companies made them and I understand they have been outlawed now! Shame, as they were pretty cool. There was a company in Hilo HI that converted lots of 1949, 50, 51 Dodges and DeSotos to Jeepney type vehicles. I have seen several of them parked on the Big Island.

I am thankful there are smarter people who pay better attention than I!! Thanks Colin 🙂

Not smarter Dave. Its 115 frickin’ degrees outside and I don’t want to go out there, so am sitting at the computer killing time!!! We will be hibernating most of the next few days as our temps will all be over 115-120!

I found two DJ3As, one 63 Surrey posted on eWillys on 10-17-16 out of Warren Michigan and a 1959 DJ3A red in color posted on 7-24-15, out of Midwest City Ok, both with oval holes on the filter bracket.

Different suppliers possibly. I looked through the GPWs thinking maybe the oval bracket was a Ford setup, but those appear to be with the large triangular bracket. Willys MBs, CJ2 and 3As used some of the triangular brackets as well as the round hole bracket. Most of the Jeepsters used the round hole bracket that I could see. The two M38s with the oval brackets were 1952 models.

I like the 1955 Ford style taillight housings on this Jeepney. Artistic touches for sure!

That’s right. I heard it was supposed to be HOT HOT HOT down there this week. It is a nice cool 75 degrees here in Sandpoint (up visiting Idaho Todd and Minnesota Chris).

That is interesting about the ovals. Sounds like it’s worth doing a post on the different oil canister mounts.

The temperature was 41 degrees at 6 this morning but it’s warmed up to a blistering 65 degrees by 2 this afternoon. I hauled a load of stuff to the dump and dropped a truckload of donated stuff off at a nonprofit place by 9 this morning so I would have all my work before the hot part of our day.

Dave, the heat must be getting to me…. I meant to type “I would have all my work done before the hot part of our day.” I think my brain melted.

You’re funny, Paul! I just noticed my vintage Jack Daniels thermometer only goes to 120 and today it recorded 118… time to get a new thermometer ;-(

I love this vehicle. If I could get it for a quarter of the asking price I’d have a new project and my Aero would be getting a tarp and a push to the side.

Thanks Randy. I must not have updated the link. I will do that now.

Craig, are congrats in the order (as in someone else bought it) or shall I convey my sympathies to your wife? 🙂

  12. Joe in Mesa

Craig, that is SO cool! Congrats 🙂
I hope you can send us some updates in the future… and good luck winning over your bride 😉

  13. Michael Carroll

Awesome! Congrats! I’d love to see this back on the road and what you do with it. Unique is good.

Yes I bought it and no I’m not willing to sell it. I did talk with Paul Barry about it at this year’s Willys Reunion and he said he had a big picture book that I was welcome to look at if I ever made it his way. I believe it is an original Sarao Jeepney. Really excited about tearing into it and giving it a correct restoration complete with all the Philippine “Bling” that I can find!
