Basic Jeep is an M38 and probably a very early one considering the data plates screw onto the dash and not to a plate with 4 camlock screws. Rims appear to be Kelsey deep-dish as used on 70 – 71 Renegades. Did anyone see the FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY on the edge of the right front fender? Definitely a government agency. Possible that county did the build on it also including the V8. I knew of a local fire department installed a V8 and automatic in a surplus M37. Interesting piece.

Let me correct myself. Data backing plate screws on with self tapping screws, not the 4 camlocks like holds the instrument cluster.
Colfax is located in beautiful Placer County which goes from the edge of Sacramento to Lake Tahoe. I used to camp at Fallen Leaf Lake. Have many customers in that county today.
Be interesting to know exactly how the county used that considering the county is over 300 sq miles and includes metropolitan and mountain foothills including goldrush country.
