I managed to lose the original I had about the folks that own the rights to the IH Scout brand, which was interesting, but the nut of the article was about the revival of the “Scout” as an EV vehicle under the Volkswagen brand. Here’s an article that explains the EV company:

Very confusing, A Company that owns the Scout Name, has made a deal with VW (bug) to build a Electric Scout (NOT IH) Does this indicate VW will now sell their brand name Rabbit, or maybe an electric BUG and name it FIREFLY? Who can keep track of all this name switching, confusion is used as a method of control.

    It kinda makes sense.
Kubelwagen & Thing (both 2wd only, though most people don’t know that) aside, VW doesn’t have much of a “Jeep”-ish heritage in the U.S. (The post-war 4wd Iltis was produced in Canafa for the Canadian military, however.)

Say, your company somehow has the rights to the old IH name and Scout likeness but don’t have a prayer of getting your own vehicle on the market…so why not lease the intellectual property rights?

Makes sense, but don’t blame me when we have a Chinese owned Volvo named “Cord”!
