It would be great if the seller has an original photo of the jeep in the box, but of course note everyone had access to a camera in 1946.

We have all heard of the $50 crated jeep story. Awhile back I saw a document from the War Asset Administration that stated that at the end of the war, in 1946, some jeeps were sold to veterans off the docks in California. Specifically it mentioned 69 crated jeeps that had been submerged in salt water while attempting to load. 11 jeeps were reconditioned but the rest remained crated and were sold that way. The price was around $600. each, not the $50. I found this to be the only evidence that crated jeeps were sold. I will try to find the link.

I’m usually skeptical of the crated jeep stories, however buying a crated WWII jeep in 1946 would have been the most likely time to get one in my opinion. That’s why I was hoping there was a picture.
