Jordan spotted this rare DJ-5 in fairly stock shape. Note the 4-lug rims.

Lawrence used to say that the DJ jeeps and the Marine Jeeps used to come with positive traction rear ends. Neat little jeep! Thanks Gary P

    Hi Gary,

He is partially correct. Some US post office DJ-5s came with limited slip differentials. The best we can determine, the ones in northern climates likely had the positraction, while some in the southern states did not.

The mid 70s postal DJ-5s also used 30 spline axles, but the axles and axle housing were about an inch shorter on either side than a standard CJ-5 width. However, you can use the 30 spline CJ-5 axles on a DJ-5 housing by adding 1” spacers on either side. That way as the first rear end I had in the flattie I built in 1984. It was a great all-around performer and I liked it better than the Detroit locker I currently have in my current flatfender. I find the locker more squirrelly on the road.
