I tried to find out more information about Richard Schweers, but had no luck linking a person with this name to military service.

    Dave – That is a Korean war era photo. Jeep is an M38. What first caught my attention was the late radio and the hood numerics. (Forest from the trees thing). And then saw the details of the Jeep itself.

    Oh Lordy! Thanks Barney. Agreed. I don’t know what I was thinking! I did run across some by that name who would have been old enough for the Korean War.

    My guess…
    It is an Army photo sent to Schweers hometown paper.
    If a unit was involved in an exercise, they would write a generic news release. The local guys name would be inserted somewhere. A photo would be taken of him doing something interesting relating to his job (MOS).
    During WWII, you’d see it a lot. Pilots who became aces or even regular ground crew members.
    It was fairly labor intensive in the days before computers, everything had to be typed by hand.
    So, if you can make out the name of the newspaper on the back (Sun Home Times?), that might lead you to the Pfc.
