Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “Lots of work done, good driver/parade truck. This is my client’s Jeep and I’ve done 99.9% of the work to it since he acquired it. He is moving in a different direction in the hobby and is putting the Jeep up for sale and since I’ve done all the work for the last 4+ years, I’m helping him sell it.
Details: Currently registered and tagged in Georgia, current owner has the title from the prior owner in Florida (Georgia will not title anything built prior to 1963). Located in Winder, Ga. Vehicle has recently been serviced with new oil and filter, all fluids checked, all zerks greased, etc. All systems on vehicle function as they should: Engine, drivetrain, 4wd, gauges, lights, parking brake, etc.
Condition: Vehicle is in very good driver or parade duty condition. Sheetmetal is above average, but not perfect. Both front fenders were wrinkled at some point and straightened. They are acceptable in their current condition but a new owner looking for show quality perfection will probably want to replace them. Tub corners, rockers, cowl and rear panel are excellent. Vehicle had a replacement floor pan installed at some point and the job was done competently. Rear panel is straight and has never had a tailgate cut in. Windshield is correct M-series Jeep (it’s an M170 ambulance Jeep model, but it’s identical to M38A1 other than two small brackets on top for stretchers) and has new glass and weatherstripping. Vehicle retains all of its original 24V system (25A generator, external regulator, blackout lights, etc.). Most of the wiring is new and retains the original Douglas connectors. The paint is older and a few spots have been touched up but overall it’s a clean and presentable vehicle. Vehicles runs very well, will maintain 50mph, transmission doesn’t pop out of 2nd gear like so many T90s, transfer works like it should, etc. Carburetor is the correct Carter YS950, etc.

“Complete Frame-Off restoration completed in 2018. Motor, transmission, transfer case, front and rear end are original equipment. It has 24,000 original miles. This is a no rust Jeep. It is equipped with an overhead cam 4 cylinder engine. The Jeep shifts great, motor has excellent compression. The transfer case is smooth in low range or high range 4 wheel drive. The frame was sanded and repainted and no rust was evident. New gas tank, brakes, brake lines, master cylinder, hoses and belts. New paint is correct military specs for this authentic Korean War Period Jeep. The interior is new with correct seats. It has the original 24 volt system that works without a flaw. This Jeep has a clean title showing it was purchased from the US Government. Equipped with a new full canvas top. Runs and drives great.”

It still has the 24 volt system, It runs with no smoke. the carb could be cleaned, the brakes work with a hard pedal, this jeep is complete including the original wheels. It has a nos canvas top. Not road ready from sitting for so long. It comes with a clear title in my name. Has very little rust, one or two patches in floor where previous owner had a heater that leaked. “This is one of last 2 of 9 military vehicles sold from my collection, It is is a M38A1 and is in fair to good condition. I describe this jeep as being partially restored. While it does have some minor rust, it would not take much effort to restore it. The body is complete and seems to be in decent shape. Add a new paint job and you will have a nice looking jeep. The jeep runs and drives very well. It starts right up and the brakes seem to also work well. The tires are dry rot and need to be replaced. It comes with a nicely done Plastic Replica 30 caliber machine gun with 4+ ‘ stand and 30 caliber cartridge box (needs to be installed on Jeep) plus what appears to be a Vietnam era flak jacket. Interested parties are encouraged to personally inspect and drive the vehicle. It does not have a title and I doubt it has ever been titled.”
