Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This jeep lived its unused-life in a heated garage. This jeep only has 1500 miles and that’s believable given the condition shown in the pics. Thanks to John for sharing this one.

“Purchased new by Rhode Island-based Scarpetti Oldsmobile for exclusive use as a snowplow, a letter from dealership owner Edward Scarpetti indicates that the odometer’s current claim of around 1,500 miles since new is to be absolutely believed.
A lifetime of storage inside a heated garage—except during snowfall—is evident in the exceptional original condition of the well-preserved paint and overall patination. Both the dealership’s hand-lettering and white-wall off-road tires are believed to be original as well, alongside the rarely preserved metal hardtop from Koenig Iron Works of Houston, Texas. The white model 520 “Jiffy Full Cab” top features removable doors and a built-in, high-powered backup light for plow duty, and presents a delightful contrast to the Jeep’s bright President Red paint.
Other than the removable hardtop and a period-correct, dash-mounted Oldsmobile badge from the late 1950s, this CJ -5 is unmodified and features its original 2.2-liter (134 ci) powertrain. CJs were roundly the most capable factory off-roaders of the 20th century, and this CJ-5 is no different with its two-speed 4×4 transfer case and locking front hubs, all backed by the original three-speed manual transmission—more than enough hardware to tackle any early CJ rally or enter sympathetic service as a ranch shuttle.”
This was listed at an estate sale just over a week ago. The sellers thought it worth $25k, but obviously it isn’t. It does look to have a column shift and tool indents.

“1946 cj2a engine is rebuilt with new cam and lifters, bored with new pistons, crank was turned,valves regroups and everything else that goes with a rebuild. I got this out of a clean dry garage where it had been since 1981. I have all the parts to put it back together that are not in pics. Radiator, generator, starter, carb , full exhaust some of it is new. My next move was to do brakes and engine components. This Jeep has a rare Sears and Roebuck hardtop kit from the 60sinstalled on it. I have two extra engines and some other parts that I will sell after the Jeep goes. Price is $6500. Runs and drives, but is a project. The “top” or cover looks to be made of fiberglass. I don’t know if this was a one-off or not, but I could see this being popular with the folks jeeping in the desert back in the day (much lighter than a Muller Top for example).

“Just rescued from the farm! Way cool, completely original plow Jeep with a Koenig Iron Works hard top. Engine is stuck, but I don’t think it’s badly stuck because the carb is freely functioning. This is a great foundation for a restoration and priced right.”
That’s about the shiniest sears-branded hardtop that I’ve seen.

Roberto Flores shared this image from another group of an older jeep pulling floats. The hardtop is unusual and was usually seen in Europe, but it’s my guess that this was taken in California somewhere. I was able to use Google search to locate the same pic on Jalopy Journal.
The body appears in pretty good shape.

UPDATE II: Here is a color version of the CJ-5 w/hardtop that appears in the brochure below. I found this on Flickr. One commenter there noted that, “Reinforced Plastics Corporation was in operation on Martha’s Vineyard from 1952 to 1959. They made these tops as well as other fiberglass items.”

UPDATE from October 26, 2017: Here’s another one of these rare brochures for sale. Thanks to Bill Norris and Derek Redmond for the extra pics. This brochure has been for sale on the same eBay pager for four years. It’s on sale at the moment.
This unusual fiberglass hardtop was created by the Reinforced Plastics Corp. I have yet to see one in the wild. Two journal articles (Chemical Week 1957, Volume 81 and National Defense Transportation Journal 1957, Volumes 13-14) both have announcements for the new top, pegging its inception around mid-1957. Unfortunately, Google will only provide snipped views of these University of Michigan scanned journals. The date of these journals suggests the lister of this brochure is probably wrong about the 1955 date for the brochure.
