“Original M38 A1 Jeep. 3 speed, 4 cylinder hurricane 134 engine, all original. 24v electronics. Waterproof alternator etc. Cool original military accessories. Been parked for over 8 years. One of the very first m38a1 ever built. No rust but will need some help to run again.”
Could use some better pics, but sure looks pretty stock.
“M38a1 willys military USMC version of the cj5.. very origional, top, doors, military radio.. xtra parts include new f134 engine, many spares, licenced, pink in hand… black plate if you want it.. . John contact ”
Has an overdrive and appears to have some Allstate hubs.
“Great condition Jeep, its a real military model Willies. Original F Head 4 cylinder engine. Runs Excellent, starts excellent, drives excellent. No issues that would keep you from using it as a daily driver if you desired.
A Warn overdrive unit has been added. This allows higher speeds with lower RPM’s. Nice for running down the highway at 55 without the engine screaming at 4,000 RPM’s. Turn signals work. Brakes work. Starts very easy and runs great. Again, no issues at all.
Comes with full removable soft top and doors. Folding windshield mechanism works perfectly.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9500.
Craig shared this modified M-38A1.
“1955 Jeep willys in great shape . Has 2 fuel tanks, Has bigger ford 302 v8 motor with an automatic 4 speed tranny and exhaust that sounds good , lockers 33″ tires Soft top and also has a bikini top. Has rancho shocks Just had transfer case rebuilt and new gas tank installed $2400 bill. Cruises down the road at 60 mph and sounds good while doing it. Has a radio and cb, a large electric winch also. Don’t buy an expensive UTV that you cant drive down the road get in this thing with heat and radio. . ”
Looks solid.
“This jeep is a great example of stock military jeep that needs some finishing touches, I’m going in another direction and don’t have the focus to complete what I started…”
Steve spotted this militarized CJ-5..
“4 cylinder original Jeep. New copper radiator, new windshield, paint, carb. Antique tag. Many reinforced body and frame work. Motor runs great. Awesome paint job with clean detailing. Must see! New military tires.”
UPDATE: Joe noted that this is an M-38A1 grille, rather than a commando grille, with side pieces added.
It’s a project.
“For sale 1965 army jeep v6 in good condition good tires runs good asking”
Craig spotted this one. It is mostly a CJ-5.The body is civilian also (side of the body is stamped “Jeep”), but it has an M-38A1 dash.
“Posting up my 1957 Jeep CJ. It’s a CJ-5 made by willys overland and is dressed up to look like an M38-A1 Which is the military version on this jeep model. I’ve owned it for a little over 2 years, the previous owner started a frame off restoration and was working toward the military theme but lost interest. I decided to source the rest of the parts and finish it off. It’s completely rust free and everything works. The 4cylinder motor runs great and the 3-speed manual transmission shifts well. The 4wheel drive works as well and has a high and low range with front manual locking hubs.
It has 5 good BFG AT/KOs and runs about 55mph down the road with no issues. Has brand new paint and decals and working lights and gauges. The only issues are the rear pinion seal leaks and the generator needs to be rebuilt. It runs fine without it I just keep a tender on the battery and never have a probkem. Comes with a dummy 50 Cal mounted in the back. I’m sure there’s a lot I’m missing but if you’re interested feel free to call or text and I can give you further details. This has been a great jeep and lots of fun just time to move on to something else. Looking to Get $9000 but will entertain reasonable offers if you’re a serious buyer”
There may be value here.
“I have 2 M38A1 jeeps that have spent the last 20 years in a barn… These are being sold for parts as there isn’t any current paperwork available on them …Between the two of them there are enough good original parts to complete one jeep …The engines were good when put away, but appear to be stuck now…Both engine compartments are complete with the proper military carburetors, fuel pumps, air cleaners, fording valves / vent lines, and 24 volt waterproof electrical / ignition systems …The green jeep’s body is shot, but it has nice original military accesories… windshield, gas tank, spare tire carrier, front seat frames, etc… The yellow jeeps body is fair and will need a new front floor and other minor repairs. .I’m asking $3000 for the pair or may consider a really good offer… I also have other used M38A1 parts available, and may consider swapping for other military jeep parts MB GPW , M38, M38A1, MBT ,M100, M416, M151 .. The tires are old so the jeeps will need to be trailered to their new home … I can deliver locally ( 30 miles ) at no charge, and will consider delivering regionally for a reasonable cost…. Please contact me through Craigslist email first …”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.
Could make a good resto project.

“I have a 1955 jeep willys it’s a m38a1 and it runs great I just put a new carb kit in it and a set of plugs”
Could be a good price. Nice winch on the front. Looks like it has the same fiberglass seats I have. I like them, but they are narrow.
“1954 Jeep Willys very cool collectors Jeep. Was running when we inherited it but has been sitting since. Needs TLC. Would like gone asap. $4k OBO”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5000
Doesn’t run and the key is lost, but could still be worth a look. Might have been ex fire jeep given all the red paint.
“I have a 1953 willy’s m38. It has 40,000 original miles. I’ve owned it for about 6 month. Absolutely no rust. The gentleman I bought it from had it since 1963. It does run but I lost the key and battery is dead. It has a brand new warn m8000 winch on the front. Seats are in great shape and tires hold air. Bill of sale only as the man I bought it from lost the title.”
It’s rough, but does have the data plate to prove it was a “D” model. This may have some Allstate hubs.
“I have a 1955 military Jeep missing engine. It has minimal rust , mainly in the lip of tool box under passenger seat, solid floors and frame, only 50 of this model was produced. It’s rare and in surprisingly good condition, make me a good offer. Bill of Sale”
Craig shared this one.
“1952 Willys m38-a1. This is the military version of the cj5. It runs well, drives, steers and stops as it should. I was planning on driving it this summer, but I’m a bigger guy, and it is pretty tight fit for me.
This is an older restoration that is showing its age. The paint is starting to chip away, there are oil leaks, some of the patches are starting to show, but overall it appears mechanically sound and driveable.
The parking brake works, as do the vacuum operated wipers. It has been converted to 12 volt and the second battery compartment was removed to fit in a heater. The top is in good shape. 4wd works great. It has a rear seat. Asking $3950.00. I would consider trading for another antique vehicle.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
Craig spotted this one. Three jeeps, one price.

Nice looking M-38A1.
“1955 Military Jeep. This is a communications model jeep, which has an overdrive transmission. The jeep was restored a few years ago, and the only part of the jeep that is not correct is the rims and tires. They were changed out for a more comfortable ride on the pavement. I do not have the original rims and tires anymore. The jeep runs and looks great. $15,000 OBO. Serious inquires only, and no brokers please. Clean Title and ready to go.”
Seems there is some parts’ value on this at the very least.
“80% original, turns over, new starter and batteries. needs gas tank. no title, price firm, text preferred. can be seen in mornings or weekend.”
