I thought this might be a DJ-3A. Instead, I think someone just hacked the sides of the body out on both the passenger and driver’s side.

I’m not sure how I missed this ad, but it’s been available since January 4th. Plenty of pics in the Ad. 2 1950 CJ-3A jeeps for sale.
“I have up for sale two 1950 CJ3A’s. one is gray with best top soft top, with a 134F engine, t90 transmission, t18 transfer case, 2 inch lift, converted to 12 volt and runs and drives great. the other one is blue is a project jeep, with a 350 chevy small block engine, converted to 12 volt, needs finished. For full asking price also comes with Mile Marker 9000 winch and a full best top soft top for the blue jeep as well. Call 509-728-2718 and ask for Mike or e-mail through craigslist.”
This sounds like a good jeeping drivetrain.
“1951 Willys CJ3a (Clear title). 225 v6 w/headers, T90 3-speed, dana/spicer 18 transfercase, dana 44 front disc brakes detroit locker w/4.88 gears, dana 44 rear detroit locker w/4.88 gears, spring over conversion w/shackle reversal, power steering, 33 inch pro-comp x-terrains on simulated beadlocks, winch, full size spare, less than 10,000 miles on drivetrain (rebuilt in early 80’s). New seats, tires, wheels, gas tank, fuel pump, battery, and high amp alternator. Too many toys, no reasonable offer refused.”
Looks like a pretty good price for what’s there. Maybe it even runs?
“All original 49 willys jeep ready for restoration. No major rust mostly surface. Oringinal flat head 4.”
UPDATE: this nice flattie is still available.
The Chevy 181 appears to be a 3.0 Liter Marine engine, which is likely a nice 4cyl for the jeep. This jeep is likely worth a closer look.
“1951 Willys Flatfender Jeep in great shape. Chevy 181 4 cylinder engine with a synchronized 3 speed transmission and split- stick transfer case. New 12.50 x 33 swampers with 410 gears and locker. 9,000 lb. Warn winch. $4200 (Best offer). For more information, please call (253) 208-6515 or (253) 884-8057”
“1951 Willys 4X4 Jeep Project. Solid body, Floors been replaced. No engine. Nice project”
Not to make fun of the paint job, but I really thought something was creating shadows over the jeep. Then, I looked at an interior pic and saw it had a strange camo paint job. I thought, ‘wait, that’s not on the outside of the jeep’. But, I was wrong, it is indeed some type of camo on the outside.
“1950 Willys Needs Title 4X4. Priced to sell at $2500 or best offer. I’ve had this for over a year… received it in a trade. New 327 engine. 205 Trasfer case. Dana 44. I am a professional mechanic owning my own shop for 15 years, and I can tell you this jeep is nice. Please no trades. Check out the pictures and give me a call at 928-527-8800 I prefer to be reached by phone not email, thanks.”
UPDATE: UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1800.
“im selling my 1951 willys jeep, it has a buick V6 and a snow plow on the front!! pleas call dutch”
UPDATE: Troy sent along a couple pics of his race jeep also. There’s one to the right and one down below.
Below is Troy’s street and trail CJ-3A. It’s been modified in a variety of ways, including a Dana 60 in the back, a Dana 44 in the front and lockers all around. Troy buys and sells stainless steel in the Northwest and is trying to decide whether to start adding more stainless steel or not to this jeep. His biggest concern is if he starts dressing it up too nice, he’ll be too afraid to bring it out to the trails. If this jeep does start growing stainless steel fenders, I doubt he’ll suffer too much as Troy will still have an opportunity to get dirty playing in his flat fender racing jeep that he calls “Twisted”.
Also, if you seek any stainless steel parts for your CJ-3A or CJ-3B, Troy assures me he can get them for you. You can contact him at jeepfrk50@comcast.net
UPDATE: The buyer of the jeep reported that these were Jewels fenders with the stickers still on them.
Here’s the deal for today. The stainless steel fenders (Jewels?) and warn overdrive may be worth $1700 alone. Also interesting, this might be a DJ-3A body, as I don’t see a tailgate; however, this might also just be some kind of mod as well.
“1953 Willy’s Jeep-work in progress- newer Ford 289, Warn overdrive, Dana 35 front/Dana 44 rear, Willy’s stamped hood, stainless fenders/grill, diamond plating in back of jeep, soft top with doors, second gas tank, and wiring harness. 1,700.”
**SOLD**
This CJ-3A appears to be in pretty good shape. I’m not a huge fan of the big bumpers, but not too bad otherwise.
“Engine updated to 289 V8, chrome wagon wheels with new tires, original seats 2 front and 1 rear bench, roll bar, red paint in fair condition. No vinyl top. Call 402-669-2675, leave a message if we don’t answer.”
We’ve a got a jeeper looking for a tub. Anyone have one near Bend?
“I’m looking for a CJ3A tub. Years 49-53 if possible. Would be willing to pay cash if it’s a good deal.”
The paint job makes it difficult to tell, but it looks like the side panel on the driver’s side is a bit rough (rust?) at the bottom edge. The top sure fits funkily …
“Great 4×4 vehicle! This Jeep has a v8 small block 283 2bbl carb. 1,600.00 obo for more info call(530)432-9277 (ask for steve) or e-mail sjdana@live.com”
UPDATE: This sold for $4,995 on 01/11/2009 on eBay.
This CJ-3A only reached a high bid of $3,550 during the last auction attempt. I was a little surprised by that, but it’s also not been restored to ‘original specs’. It looks nice and is back on the auction block.
“1949 CJ3A in extremely good condition. It has be in body off restoration for 13 years striped to the frame. It had the usual rust in the floor pans, new steel was welded in these areas. Also new under body rails were welded in. The frame was in good shape and the floor and the rear fender well are in good shape. After the body tub was completed and before installed on the frame it was completely undercoated with a rubbery undercoat. Both front and rear axles were completely disassembled and rebuilt….”
UPDATE: Price has dropped to $4000. The seller incorrectly calls this a CJ-3B. This has been sale for 9 months.
“Great little Willys in great condition with a soft top. 495-2809 or 880-7929 ”
The seller has either the model or the year wrong on this jeep.
“New paint, runs great. Custom seats, new top, custom wheels worth $1200 themselves. Drives great. Nice seats that makes it a nice ride. Worth a lot more than the asking price and would cost a lot more to restore one to this conditon. This is a head turner. Looking to move and need to sell. Serious buyers only.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.
“Willy’s Flat Fender Fiberglass Jeep body/tub. Fits 1946-1965 CJ2A, CJ3A, & CJ3B Jeeps with 80” wheel base. BRAND NEW – very durable FIBERGLASS. Use on the road and/or off the road. ** Asking $1500.00 “
UPDATE: Was $15,000. **SOLD**
Looks like a very nice CJ-3A with some quality customizations.
“Fully restored from “frame-up” 1951 Willys that is ready for Glamis, trail riding, or the street. Chevy 350 stroked to a 383 that dyno’s at 475 horsepower. Uses 91 pump gas. Comes with street tires and rear sand tires. The Jeep was built by Mike Record in 2000 and the motor was rebuilt (less than 25 hours on it) by Chris Patton.”
A reader wanted to share a pic of this beautiful all Jewels Flatfender he built over many years and recently sold. He says he already is at work on another jeep. Hopefully, he’ll provide us with some updates as works on his new project.
UPDATE: **SOLD**
I include this jeep as it’s a rare example, in my opinion, of a DJ-3A with a tailgate. I’ve heard these existed, but hadn’t had picture proof until I saw this one. The thing that clued me in was the large speedometer. Once I saw that, I went back and read the description.
“For Sale is my 1955-1964 DJ3A/CJ2A/CJ3A combo Jeep that I use on my Farm for general weekly transportation over the last several years. Jeep is stored inside my barn at all times on my farm. If you are looking for a show vehicle with matching numbers this is not the ride for you. However, if you are looking for a good solid original Willys flat fender Jeep driver for general use, read on. All body parts except the tool box are original Willys manufacture. Body tub, fenders, hood, tailgate, and front grill are original DJ3A that have had a paint job using Mil Standard Sherwin Williams OD CARC paint. Body tub is solid as the DJ3A had a full hard top which protected it from the normal weather related rust experienced by most soft top Willys vehicles…..”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000.
It appears to have a number of modifications, including a suspension change and a tilte steering wheel. It may not much more than a parts jeep at this point.
“with high proformance 289 completely rebuilt and running. Project car. Running but not ready for road. needs work.lots of parts. consider part trade for running and complet.
This looks to be a good price. The tires look good and the body looks straight from the picture angle. Given the seller didn’t include the keyword “willys” this may be a difficult one for most people to find, which might mean the price will drop some more from lack of calls.
“1952 jeep $2800 all stock or trade for??????”
What jeep isn’t complete without a CD player. Some interesting custom doors.
“231 Buick V6 electronic ignition. 33×12.50×15 tires on 10×15 rockcrawler wheels w/2.5″bs. Soft top from later jeep(doors need to be retrofitted). Steel half doors. CD player.”
I’m not sure if this is a PNW legal racer or not. It may just be a sand/mud buggy. I can’t tell for sure, but I suspect the body is fiberglass, probably a bobcat body, as the rim around the back looks wider than a standard body. I am wondering why they dont’ have a front bumper on the thing. There about $800 is tires alone, if in decent shape.
“i have a 41 flat fender willys jeep it has a 350 and a 700r tranny and a narowed toyota rearend and five point harrnesses it comes with a set of 31” paddles and a wheelie bar askin 3500 or trade for something 4×4 and of equal value.”
