Overbored Racing & R.A.C.E’s End of Summer Race

One of the racing jeeps getting ready on Friday.

Yesterday I made my way from the warm dry eastern Washington desert to the ‘wet’ side of the State. I was not surprised when I hit light rain as I approached the western slope of the Cascades.

At the top of 4500ft White Pass. Beyond the motorhome is the White Pass Ski Area. Let the rain commence!

However, by the time I arrived at the Ethel property where Overbored Racing & R.A.C.E are holding their Labor Day Weekend race, the rain abated, replaced with some sun. Hopefully the weather holds!

My camping spot for the next couple of nights.

I’m here at the invitation of Rob Stafford, who suggested I attend, baiting me with a couple of rides in a race jeep. That’s a hard thing for me to pass up. I haven’t raced since 1986- Memorial Day 1986, not that I’m counting or anything-and I still miss it. Thanks to my mother-in-law, whose motorhome I borrowed, I could attend. Sadly, Ann isn’t with me as she had a prior engagement in Spokane. Continue reading

2016 SW Ohio Jeep FC Gathering

UPDATE: Some additional photos of the event, including the t-shirts, have been added.

Author Jim Allen dropped by the event as did Craig Brockhaus with his new FC Van named Marilyn (it came with the name). Roger Martin is standing to the left.

This past weekend was the 2016 SW Ohio Jeep FC Gathering at Roger Martin’s place. Unfortunately, the threat of rain keep some folks away. Given the rain that fell in Maryland over the weekend, there was good reason for concern. However, the rain pretty much skipped over Roger’s place. Roger has some t-shirts left over that are for sale. You can see them at the end of this post. Call Roger at 937-477-5270 for more info.

One of the stars of the show was Craig Brockhaus’s newly acquired FC from Sweden named “Marilyn”. It has only been in the US for 16 days, so very few folks have had a chance to inspect it. “Marilyn” started right up and purred like a kitten. It was part of a photo shoot/video on the property.

Jim Allen, writer/author, enjoyed his inspection of the van. He was asking questions and taking pictures.

Bill Robinette (and son, Ed) brought his Jeepster. Bill is the original owner. He bought it new in 1950. The story goes, ” Ed had a 1948 CJ 2a, which was their only transportation. One day it was raining and his wife said her feet were getting wet so they went to the Jeep dealer, Marshall Brothers, in Alpha, Ohio to get an new rubber seal. Instead, they got a new rubber seal with everything that goes around it. Ed drove it to school and wanted to put a big engine in it, but his dad wouldn’t let him. It is still original.”

The King Family’s 2016 Jeep Rally

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Jason filed this report on the family’s 2016 rally.

“This past weekend we had our 6th Annual Jeep Rally in beautiful Parke County, Indiana.  We enjoyed traveling north from Rockville to visit a old family homestead and also meander through the countryside seeing covered bridges, horse drawn Amish carriages, as well as, a few turkey and deer.  We also rode go karts like we did last year and ended up stopping for ice cream prior to returning from our nearly 60 mile trip.  This year we had 7 jeeps ranging in years from 1946 to 2014 and 23 three attendees.  We are already looking forward to next year’s run.”

Thousand Mile Jeep Trip to Italy

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features, videos This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Christian updated his website with more pics and some background. There’s a summary at the bottom of the page: http://www.willys-am-tegernsee.de/?p=1425

This is the official video of the event. It’s in Italian, but still interesting:

Christian Pawlak and some of his jeep-owning friends just completed a thousand mile trip from Germany to Colonna, Italy, and back. In Colonna, they joined the Liberta/Column of Liberation celebration with 150 vehicles and almost 500 participants. They encountered some mechanical problems and some poor weather, but in Italy they had a great time chatting and eating. He shared a photo of their adventure below and will publish a story about their trip at his website when he has time. Click on the pic to view a much larger version.

Wagon & Wagoneer Wanted for Concourse Delegance in Plymouth, MI

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features, wanted This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Bill Norris was contacted by the St Johns (formerly the Meadowbrook) Concourse Delegance in Plymouth, MI to see if he could find them a late 50s early 60s Willys wagon (preferably a Maverick) and an early 60s Wagoneer for a special SUV display they are putting on this year. I have nothing to do with the show, but some how they got my name. Anyway, the vehicles must be really well preserved originals or very accurate restorations. No customs wheels, paint etc. They want them to look as much like factory as possible.

This is a very prestigious show. Its not your local cruise in type thing. Many high end, high dollar cars from collectors all over the world participate in this event.

Anyone interested can contact Bill at billnorris5189@gmail.com? You must be willing to transport the vehicle to and from the show. It takes place the last weekend of July 29, 30 and 31. They need an answer by 5/13 so they can be included in the show’s program.

He wrote, “Fort Miles, a WWII era Military Garrison is along the coast in Lewes, DE. This event provides an interactive garrison exhibit that is conducive to educating the visiting public on the function and significance of Fort Miles during the second world war. The 261st Coast Artillery along with the 1252nd Service Command Support Unit (motor pool) was on hand for the day. During the Cold War years, Fort Miles served as NAVFAC Lewes from 1963 until 1981 as a US Navy SOSUS listening facility.”
