It doesn’t look too bad in the pics, but the seller suggests it is ready for a complete restoration.
“This is a 1944 Ford GPW WWII Jeep, serial #232700, with matching Ford engine numbers; there are many Ford script parts on this Jeep . It appears to be all original and is in need of a complete restoration. Jeep was painted several years ago by previous owner and bondo and sheetmetal work was done sub standard. Bondo is chipping from metal and needs to be blasted off – also all floors have been patched and cut on and a civilian gas can was installed at one time and has now been removed. Jeep rolls freely, shifts in all gears and ranges freely. ”

UPDATE: I suspect this jeep is on it’s last ride. It’s now a mailbox.
A reader submitted this unusual find. Yes, the seller of this old jeep somehow used it as a mailbox (I think the mailbox is on the back of the jeep), though technically I’d argue the jeep is more of a mailbox pole. While I firmly believe that the jeep has earned the reputation as one of the most modified vehicles in history, the use of a jeep as a mailbox pole is particularly rare.
“Willys jeep. Military, of about 1944. No engine, no trans, no papers, but lots of rust. For a long time I used this old jeep as a mail box; if you buy it, I won’t be getting bills anymore. For $400., you can be sure that your bills will find their way to your door.”
It’s not running. However, I don’t see much rust either. This might be a pretty good deal.

“1943 Willys Jeep. I was told by the previous owner that it was a WWII general’s jeep. Can’t confirm that, but it’s possible, and a cool story … Previous owner rebuilt the engine, I can’t say exactly when … The thing starts up and runs. It’s a bit rough — probably just a timing thing — but it gets around. Body is surprisingly straight and rust free…. It’s missing the original fuel tank and fuel pump, and instead has a boat tank and hand pump! Works great for general use .. A friend of mine took a liking to it about a year ago and put in new spark plugs, wires, distributor, rotor and battery ..”
I’m not sure if this runs? It looks like there’s been some work on the body as one of the driver side cutouts is missing.

“1945 Ford/Willys CJ2 4WD JEEP, original VIN and ID tag on dash, clean Texas title, no rust, John Deere green paint, starts first time EVERYTIME, tow ready, tagged as antique vehicle, original engine and transmission, great ranch, hunting, or deer lease rig. This cool old jeep is a lot cheaper than a new 4-wheeler, and will also carry 4 people with cooler ! Note the interesting modifications to the grille.
“This is a Jeep that I purchased a little while back. I was going to restore it to look like the old Military Jeeps. It features a one of a kind grill which has two half vents on each side, as well as 4 indicator lights, instead of just 2. This one has a tailgate, which I think may not be original. It has the flathead motor or the “Go Devil” motor. The other parts of the drivetrain, I believe are original. The body has a military style dash, with the military style glovebox….”
UPDATE2: This jeep is in Forks, Washington. Price dropped to $1500.
I’ve lightened up the pictures, so now I can at least tell it’s a Willys of some kind. I can’t tell much more than that. There’s no information in the ad about it, just a picture.
It looks good.

It looks like it needs a good cleaning, but I think it will clean up well.
“This Willys jeep was commisioned to Fort Polk. It had a rebuild in 1985.
Owner died in 1989 and the jeep was stored in a barn until four months ago.
I acquired it in an estate sale. Everything was said to be original when I bought it from the sale. As seen in the photos it is dusty from all the years being stored. It’s a good looking GPW.
“Originally purchased privately in January of 1983 in Heightstown, New Jersey. Has been garage kept since purchase, and believed to have been prior to also. It was primarily used for parades, re-enactments and static displays. Entire body and interior is original, including seat covers, ID plates, and windshield. Body was stripped down and repainted. Some additional body work and mechanical work required to get into show condition. Still has 6 volt system, may need new wiring harness. Generator rebuilt in late 1980’s. Motor rebuilt at time of purchase. Shimmy in front end when driven and small stone chip in driver’s side of windshield.”
I’ve not heard of an MVD? It does appear to be an MB body. The story behind the purchase is a bit odd. He tried to convince his parents he didn’t want it, and just wanted to sell it, but has done a bunch of work on it? hmmmm…..
“… Well, after weeks of trying to convince my parents that I do not want this thing, here it is up for sale to you. I will tell you what I know about the vehicle. Having personally worked on it, the Jeep runs very well, solid engine and drive train, four wheel drive works, all electrical items, except the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge needs the sensor in the tank, the actual gauge is fine. The outside paint actually looks good, orange in color. The soft top is showing some significant age, windows are whiting….”
I’m pretty sure the 4:20 rear ends are really 4:10 gearing front and rear (or they are 538 gears). What’s a 538 GM transmission? There’s some mixed up numbers. The trailer certainly is interesting.

“1942 FORD GPW. Too much to list: Fully restored from the ground up. Ford Flathead engine completely rebuilt and machined with only 132 miles on it . 12 volt electrical system. All new canvas (Beachwood Canvas). The Axles have been rebuilt, the tranny and transfer case have been re-sealed. Complete Steering system has all been rebuilt. New reproduction Ford radiator. New Paint, Tires ,braking system, hoses, wires, ect. You name it, its been replaced with new parts and ready to go. Alot of detail and time went into finding new “F”(Ford) marked parts all the way to the bolt heads and tires for this restoration”

I’ve found a couple references to the sale of this collection. Anyone know more? Based on the pic to the right, these don’t appear in great condition. My guess is that this is over priced.

This one looks perfectly find. The price doesn’t seem that outrageous.

This one doesn’t look like it is in great condition. There’s no reason to think it is worth $11,500.
