(12/15/2012) The engine and tranny are out of it.  This is a project.

“1952 Willys M38, military version of the CJ3A. The Willys does not have an engine or transmission/transfer case in it. I do have the transfer case. It has stock axels at each end. Dana 44 offset rear and Dana 25 front. The spider gears are welded on the front axle. Have a spare rear Dana 44 that’s locked. It has Selectro hubs. It’s been re-wired with a Painless wiring harness. It’s got a Mile Marker 12000 pound hydraulic winch mounted on it. It has power steering and disc brakes up front. Although I believe it needs a new master cylinder. It’s been lifted 2.5 inches and has 33×10.5×15 super swampers on 15×10 black steel wheels. I have a soft top and doors for it that I believe were new when I bought the Willys years ago. I never put them on, can’t find the bows. Solid body and tub. The Willys has been outside and needs new seats and cleaned up. I do have an assortment of other parts that can be negotiated for (small bock chevy 350, 4.3 vortec, v6 headers, truck 4-spd, advance adapter, full width axles). “1952 M38 Willys Army Jeep for sale. My father bought it from a man who brought it home from the Army. Was used at our vacation cabin for many years. When the cabin sold we brought it home and started to restore it. The hood, chassis, body, fenders, tail gate, seat frames, windshield, and grill were restored by a body shop but the project never got finished! It has been in the garage in pieces and boxes for years as you can see in the pictures. Not everything is pictured because of the twelve picture limit. It is time to sell this project to someone who has the desire and ability to finish the restoration. I chose not to photograph the contents of every box but be assured the Jeep was running when it was taken apart for restoration. We bought new tires, new gas tank (hard to find at the time and probably even harder now), and new brake parts. Probably some other new parts that I can’t remember now were also purchased when we preparing to restore. Please note we want to sell this as a single lot. Please do not ask about parting this out.

“M38 Willys Jeep is the rare and desirable military version of the CJ3A with the same one piece windshield and distinctive headlights. It also has a stronger boxed frame than the CJ3A. Original California vehicle.

This Jeep is in nice running condition with the original 4 cylinder L-134 engine. Electrical was converted to 12v (including starter and alternator). It’s turn-key and never fails to start. Has good oil pressure and compression. Full Stewart Warner gauges. Original heavy duty radiator was disassembled and cleaned and is in great shape. Civilian fuel tank is in good shape, no rust. Bullet-proof Cuno oil filter.

Drive train was rebuilt not long ago. 3 speed transmission and transfer case were completely gone through with new bearings and seals. Any gear that was questionable was replaced. Upgraded drive shafts. Axles 5.38:1 — Dana 44 rear, Dana 25 front. The front was recently rebuilt by Rearend Specialties in Santa Clara. Rebuilt knuckles including bearings and seals. Recent brakes front and back. Front brakes have been upgraded to larger 11″ drums. Warn locking hubs.

Like new BFG MTR tires under warranty from America’s Tire. Step rear bumper. Roll bar. U-bolt skid plates. 2″ spring lift. Warn hubs. Best-top soft top. Previously used for hunting – quiet and easy on fuel.”

(07/08/2013) This includes an overdrive. The hood is a fiberglass bobcat. Not sure how it is a 1956.

“Runs good, 4X4 works good. Buick 231 V6 with auto choke. The tranny has four stick shifts with over drive. It will do 65 on the freeway. Dual exhaust. Needs brake work ( needs new rear wheel brakes). I have already replaced most of the brake lines and the drums are 11in instead of 9in. It gets allot of looks and thumbs up. It does need some body work ( has bondo). The windshield is out of the first generation Willy’s military so it has a two piece windshield. I put a wiper motor on the driver side and the passenger side should be a manual wiper but I have not bought it yet. The willy’s is a M38/3A. I put seats and fuel tank out of a 1970 cj5. The top is a custom top.It has doors as well. There is not another one like it in the world. I have the speedometer but it needs a cable and calibrated.
