1951 M-38 Middleville, MI $7500

• CATEGORIES: M-38 • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This looks like a solid M-38. It still runs 24 volt.

“I am selling my 1951 military willys jeep. The tub is all original as is the motor and it has O rust. The floors are as solid as when they came off the production line. It is set up with the 24 volt system and has 2 new batteries. The tires and tubes are in brand new condition and i do have a spare tire and rim. It comes with a as i was told old new stock canvas top. The bows on the jeep are new and yet need to be painted. The wiring in the jeep does need to be redone as it is the original wiring. the wiring is good for starting and stopping the engine. The engine is solid and starts and runs beautifully. The high and low 4 wheel drive work great as does the 2 wheel drive. The jeep has a couple spots that for some odd reason were spray painted black but that is a easy fix with a can on military match spray paint. I am a ww2 reenactor and i was going to use this jeep but i decided to go with a motorcycle instead. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 616-450-2194 ask for Tim. If you are a craigs list scam artist dont waste my time with your ass wipe offers. thanks for looking”

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was priced at $1000.

The engine on this has been rebuilt.  It runs.

“48 willys Jeep, engine has been rebuilt, it does run, but the steering box is bad, and obviously from the pics it does need work. But, its all original, and mostly just surface rust. It was my dads, he put a new windshield, taillights and headlights in it, and did take it gopher hunting a few times. I know its worth something to the right buyer, it will have to be loaded on a flatbed to haul it out..”

1952 CJ-3A Burton, OH $350

• CATEGORIES: Last Ride, M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Only habit is holding this body together.  Still, for $350, there might be value.

“Up for sale is this Willys CJ-3A Jeep. I believe it is a 1952 based on my research on the serial number, but there is NO TITLE so I am not positive. This is a true barn find, actually the barn was much nicer than the Willys (lol). It is complete but in very poor condition. The hood and grille are the only body pieces that are in decent condition, the body tub and cab are rotted. The flat head engine is seized because whoever stopped working on the engine 30 odd years ago left three of the four spark plugs out. The transmission goes into all gears and the thing rolls so the differentials are free too. I am guessing that the transmission, transfer case, drive shafts and differentials are all serviceable with some refreshment (new fluids, grease, seals and such). There is no tailgate. The frame is rusty too and may be too weak to be usable. Basically what you see is what yu get. This is a perfect parts vehicle for your project as it is completely intact and all of the little parts that nickel and dime you are here. The only obvious things missing are the seats, the passenger seat was gone when I found it and I am keeping the driver’s frame for my project.

Do not e-mail or text me, I will not respond. Do it the old fashioned way, talk to me! Call Gary at 440-728-0057 BETWEEN 3 pm to 11:30 pm ONLY. Thanks for looking, good luck in your search.”

The has a rear pro, but hard to see it due to the bright pink color of this jeep.

“Want everyone’s eyes on your ride? This Jeep is truly one of a kind. It has combined aspects of both commercial and military issue 1952 Jeep Willys’. The HOT PINK color is also an eye catcher! The jeep is registered as a collectors, parade vehicle. It has 120,469 miles on it. Has been in storage for 5 years. It was in running order then, but needs some work now. Tires are in great condition! Body has slight rust and some peeling of paint on the hood. It is a 3 speed, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, neutral and reverse. Two functioning seatbelts on front seats. Back seat folds down flat, or can seat two when placed upright. Want to be the talk of the town? Want a creative way to advertise your business? This Jeep could be your answer!!! Asking $3500 (which is a steal for this vehicle), but feel free to make an offer. Selling do to moving to a location without space for it. Thanks for looking! (Jeep is pretty dusty in the pictures from its time in storage…it cleans up beautifully…and if you decide to buy it – I will personally clean the vehicle prior to your picking it up)!”

1950 M-38 Pleasant Grove, UT eBay

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

One of the unusual features of this is a tag indicating is was worked on in Japan at an Ordinance rebuild shop.

“This vehicle was found behind a warehouse in February 2010. The owner claimed it had not run over 4 years. I could only find two identification tags on the entire vehicle. One tag located on the engine stated it was rebuilt by the “Japan Ordinance Command”. The other tag was a vin tag from a 1953 M38A1. Based on the body and engine type I am confident it is not an M38A1. I did a title search and obtained a clear title for the vehicle. I do not know the actual year of the vehicle

Mechanical: After rebuilding the carb and fuel pump, I was able to get the jeep started. It ran pretty rough and I determined one of the valves were stuck. Instead of just replacing the bad valve, I decided to tear down the entire engine and send it to a machine shop. The shop ground the rod journals .10 over and mains .20 over. The cylinders were fine so I just put new rings in it. Overall the engine has new bearings, rings, and a few of the valves replaced. The engine has been reinstalled, but there are still several parts that need to be reinstalled. Overall the cost of the rebuild and parts were approximately $800.00. The vehicle still has the stock transmission, transfer case, and axles.

Based on past experience trying to stop an old Willys, I decided to purchase a whole new disk brake and dual master cylinder system. Overall, I spent $600.00 on these parts which include: brake calipers, brake pads, rotors, dual master cylinder, caliper mounting bracket, assorted bolts and hoses. I have not installed or modified the braking system since purchasing the new parts I also purchased a new rebuild kit for the steering box for about $150.00.

Misc: The tub and body parts were covered in a black bed liner when I first purchased the vehicle. I striped most of the bed liner off of the exterior with a wire bell. There is a small rust hole under the drivers side seat that has been patched with steel. The jeep has bias ply stock sized tires with good tread, plus a spare. The jeep comes with some old CJ lowback bucket seats. I also have two gas tanks for the vehicle. One is the military version that I used a restoration kit on to remove the rust and seal it. I also have a new gas cap for the military tank. The second tank is from what I think is a civilian CJ3A.

Reason for selling vehicle: I finally came to the conclusion that my progress on this project over the past two plus years has not been very promising. As much I as I love the idea of restoring a historic military vehicle, I do not have the time or resources to finish it correctly.”

(06/14/2012) Am I missing something here?  $5000 for this? I agree, the body looks good, though this doesn’t have a tailgate like it should. And, it seems to be missing leg room for the back seat passengers. And, it requires some assembly. And, … well, you get my point.

• CATEGORIES: M-38 • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5551.

(05/31/2012) This looks solid.

“This Jeep has been in my family since the early 1960’s and was used for hunting. It was purchased from Archer Brothers in Hayward CA. It will go anywhere you point it. Comes with a Warn 8000 lbs. winch. For the hunter, this Jeep is perfect. Unlike a side by side, this is street legal and will take four people just about anywhere your gutsy driving will take you. The motor runs great but needs to be painted. The body is ok but has many small dents from previous hunting trips. For the restorer, it could use bodywork, fresh paint on the motor, and new upholstery on the seats.
The Jeep was torn down to the frame and sand blasted, primered, and painted with PPG epoxy gloss black paint.

Here’s the list.
Stock L134 Motor
Rebuilt Stock transmission
Rebuilt Stock Transfer Case
New High Torque Starter
New Water Pump and Hoses
New Distributor
New Wires and Plugs
New Fan Belt
New KYB shocks
New Rear Leaf Springs
Front Leaf Springs are 7 years old.
New front black out lights
New Tires
11″ Brakes
New Clutch
New Intermediate Shaft in the Transfer Case
Tilt Column
GM steering box
Heavy duty steering
Warn 8000 lbs. winch
New speedometer gauge and cable
The front Dana 25 axle was rebuilt 15 years ago. Maybe 300 miles are on it.
Rear Dana 44 was rebuilt 8 years ago and has Detroit locker with Dutchman 30 spline axles.
Comes with the rear rack and two Jerry Cans (High Lift Jack Not Included)”

All original with diesel?  I did a little research and there is a rumor that a few M-38A1s destined for export had diesels in 1952 (http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4725).  If that really did happen, then I suppose it is possible that a M-38 could have had one installed as well.  However, I have seen no other evidence to support this.
