Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have a 1943 Willys World War 2 Jeep that “Bubba” has modified. Actually I have been told this is a “MEESE” from the Phillipines?? Front fenders are different, has either a 1955 or ’56 Chevy 265 with original T84 and transfer. Jeep does run but needs total restoration. Unique looking Jeep. This MB sounds like it has a story.

This appears to be a custom combo MBM38A1 body. I wonder whether the seller knows it or not.
“1942 Willys MB 4×4 WWII model. The body looks rough but is adequate for hunting or farm use. It has had the windshield glass, gas tank, and one rear axle replaced. It has good tires. The engine, transmission, transfer case and drive train are all original as far as I know and all work well. The engine runs great. The alternator needs to be replaced. I have always charged the battery and use it as long as it lasts. We can discuss delivery. 512-446-2382.”

“times really are tough. must sell my 1945 willys combat jeep. the jeep is a work in progress. right now it runs good, no smoke or engine noises. it drives and it stops. clutch slips some in high range gears. throwout bearing is a little noisy. all gears work, 4 wheel drive with lockout hubs works perfect. has all new brakes and brake lines including all steel and rubber lines. carb was rebuilt. still needs cosmetics. fuel tank gally under the seat needs replace. has no orig tank, uses plastic boat tank now. no windshield glass floors are not perfect they have some thin spots but mostly solid. this jeep with another 1500 in cosmetic work is very valuable. I would take 5000 firm. as little as 3000 with a trade. looking for old chevy muscle.”

“For sale is a 1941 Willys “slat grill” MB Army Jeep and a matching 1943 Bantam military trailer. Both are fully licensed and titled in the state of Wyoming.
The frame number on the jeep is MB108308, meaning that it was the 8308th production jeep delivered to the Army Quartermaster in WWII. There were more than half-a-million jeeps delivered to the military during WWII from Willys (the “MB”) and Ford (the “GPW”).
There is a weird screw-up on the body, in that early production jeeps featured a “script” from the manufacturer on the back. I purchased a reproduction rear body panel and, somehow, the Willys script was stamped on the wrong side. It’s an easy fix that anyone reasonably adept at welding can handle and I probably should have taken care of it by now, but I actually enjoyed leaving it that way, largely to drive the perfectionists crazy.”

It looks like some money has been spent on this rebuild.
“This is a completely restore 1945 Willys , new everything no exspence was spared when building, Even the motor is brand new . It is only used to show and is hauled there on a car trailer, only 30 miles on everything. I also have a brand new full complete soft top that has never been installed and tons of extra parts mostly left over. I might consider partail trades. I have all the paper work and pictures of the jeep during its rebuild,Also a clean title.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2000. I should have looked closer at this one. It looks like an MB to me. Note the MB fender, no drain holes at the steps, what appears to be a glove box in the dash, and the steering. This was listed as a ’51 CJ-3A.
(10/30/09) It appears mostly stock with a little bit of old and a little bit of new.
“1951 Willys jeep all orignal runs good needs some work on the body and paint it will need a new radiator and some tlc it has a new master cylinder ,it needs the wheel cylinders replaced all of the 4wheel drive in tact and working this would be a great hunting vehicle the tires are in good shape it is on a non op and I have the pink slip in hand it has a tow bar and the top and doors are there they will need some frame work put on the Jeep to install them, this thing has so much character”

We aren’t too sure of what exact year it is but we did find out that it could be in between the years of 41-51 body style. The engine we know was taken out of another jeep a little newer then the body. Its an F-head with the valve cover on top so it was taken out of a jeep from the years 53-63. We found that it’s very common for people to switch out the engines from that year because it’s better performance. The jeep has very little rust and all of it is surface rust that we can find. It doesn’t have a transmission unfortunately or i would be driving it. i have a magazine that sells parts for jeeps and we found a transmission for it and it would only cost about 1500 dollars which isn’t bad for this old of a jeep. I would fix it up myself but i don’t have money and i really need a vehicle. Right now it’s an open title.”

“Newly restored ”cloned Willys MB. This is a 1945 CJ2A modified to look like a 1944 MB. It is 99% done. It needs a little touch-up on the paint and a rear seat. I spent Thousands of dollars on new parts. I have all records of purchased items. I put one size larger tires on it to increase fuel mileage and travel speed. It runs and drives like new. The engine is smoke free and I changed the voltage to a 12-volt system for better lighting and dependability. I also added turn signals and a second rear brake light for safety. I also added new style seat belts to make it a safer vehicle. The entire Willys has been sandblasted primed and painted with late WW11 319 OD. I spent many hours disguising the CJ2A look. I would like to keep all the bags and supply’s that are all over it. The Shovel, Axe, Jerry can, rope and spare tire will stay with it.I still need to install the battery hold down. The top and seats are brand new, they are thicker than originals to make the ride a bit smoother. I also have a new glove box to install to make the dash look like the MB. The drive train is the way I bought it, so I don’t know how many miles are on them, but it goes down the road smooth.( I love it). The only reason for selling it is, I recently found a real 1942 GPW that needs restoring. I put about 1500 miles on it these past few months with no problems. The odometer reads about 7,000 miles. This is a nice vehicle that will last a long time with some care. Please call with any questions or if you want more pictures …. RUNS LIKE A TOP, NEVER FAILS TO START, RUN, STOP, PERRS LIKE A KITTEN. NEW:
steel tub, fenders, w/shield frame, hood, grill, seat pads, tires, gages, wire harnes, breaks, gas tank, all lines, master cyl, inner and outer tie rods etc etc etc. REBUILT: 1946 cj-2 engine top to bottom, block line bored, turned crank, new pistones/rings, valves, carb, cam. Radiator recored used oe tanks.
Front and rear end completely gone though w/new seals and bearings. Starter. both front and rear drive shaft(propeller shafts). Transmission and tranfer case. spring rebuilt. FRAME: straightened, frame hornes correctly repaired, rear x-member replaced. EVERY THING IS EITHER NEW OR REBUILT BUMPER TO BUMPER, TIRES TO WINDSHIELD AND STEERING. IF IT IS NOT MENTIONS I JUST FOR GOT TO LIST IT. ANY ONE LOOKING TO BUILD ONE KNOW HOW MUCH TIME AND MONEY GOES INTO A FULL RESTO. there are a decent amount of gpw parts on the engine *********************************** PLEASE : NO TIRE KICKERS, NO LOW BALLERS, I DO NOT “NEED THE MONEY”.
