1942 Willys Overland Trailer San Antonio, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: trailer This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $700.

This trailer looks like a good price. I got curious about the number of Willys Overland trailers produced. After some searches, I learned that a contract for the first 10,000 trailers was given to Willys. A follow up contract for 5000 trailers was given to Bantam. Near the end of the war there were a variety of companies that produces a small number of trailers. This link shares that information: http://jeepdraw.com/Chucks_Trailers.html

This is a World War II Willy utility trailer. It is extremely rugged and has been modified with ball hitch. Great for hunting, camping or hauling.”

Looks like a nice combo.

I have a body off restoration M38a1 Jeep and trailer parade ready.This is the Marine Corps version with full fording gear.The only thing not restored on this vehicle is the engines internals runs like a top but does burn oil.This vehicle will be on display at the MVPA nationals from June 25 till June 28 at the Kentucky Expo center.This Jeep is immaculate in every detail comes with many extra parts including etra engine block, heads,rear ends ,and transmission and transfer case.Biggest reason I am selling is due to the fact that this vehicle has a top speed of 45 to 50mph and around here you would be run over at that speed on highway.I can be contacted by phone or text also at 4one9six0two4zero33.Where i was from in Ohio there were enough 55mph roads to travel to many shows and parades but down here it has to be trailered for your own safety.Bulldog on hood not included.Might consider trade of equal value on Cobra Mustang 99-2004″

1942 GPW w/Trailer Abilene, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), trailer This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9500

(04/22/2014) Looks solid. Updated motor and tranny.

“I am selling my one of kind 1942 Ford GPW with a 1951 M100 Trailer. Sold as a package deal only. I did a complete frame off restoration of this jeep and trailer in 2004. The paint is a little faded, but pretty much everything is good to go. The engine and transmission where missing when I got the jeep, so I installed a 1985 4.3 liter Chevy V6 with a 4 barrel carburetor and a later model Military M38 T-90 transmission. This Jeep has lots of power and is a blast to drive! The transmission does pop out of second gear sometimes. I just put $1200.00 worth of new tries and wheels on the jeep last August. I kept the jeep as close to original as possible, except for the engine and transmission. It was titled as a 1948 Willys Jeep when I bought it, so that is the way it is still titled. I am asking $9500.00 cash for it and the trailer. Email this post for more info.”

Sterling Manufacturing’s Jeep Trailer

• CATEGORIES: Features, trailer This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Check out Richard’s Sterling Trailer here.

Most of us are familiar with the post WWII trailers like the Bantam & Spen trailers, but one most people don’t know about is the Sterling trailer built in Canada by the Sterling Machine and Manufacturing Company. I *think* the company was located in Hobart, Ontariorioon the isthmus between Georgian Bay to the north and Simcoe Lake to the south.

Only a handful of these trailers have been photographed. The topic came to my attention thanks to Glenn, who spotted a Kijiji ad in a CJ-2A Page thread for the trailer.  It appears to be the 2nd production model made. Here’s the info:

Vintage 1947 Willys Jeep trailer:
This is a unique item if you are into old Jeeps. It is serial number 2!!! It was built in 1947 by Sterling Machine in Owen Sound, Ontario for Willys Jeep. The serial number plate is original untouched and shows it as number 2.

A little research into Sterling is they produced Civilian and civil service equipment for Jeep, and much of their business was concentrated on fire service. It appears this trailer may have originally been painted red, so it may have been sold as fire dept. equipment.

This trailer is in need of restoration, but is still usable. Up until recently it was used as a utility trailer by my father-in-law. Lots of surface rust, but structurally it is still very restorable.

=================

The best threads about this trailer are at the early CJ-5 site and at the IH8Mud site. One of the big differences between the early trailer above and the later trailer are the fenders, which change from  the extended type shown above to the more bantam-like fenders. Here’s an example:

Sterling-machine-trailer-blue3

=================

This is a vintage photo of a Sterling Trailer that appeared on Facebook.

cj2a-and-sterling-trailer

Sterling Machine didn’t only do trailers. The CJ-3B page highlights there production of Fire Jeeps: http://cj3b.info/Fire/FireCJ2A.html

Sterling also received a Canadian patent for “Sawing attachment for jeeps and tractors” in 1951: http://books.google.com/books?id=KCoSAQAAMAAJ&q=%22Sterling+Machine%22+jeep&dq=%22Sterling+Machine%22+jeep&hl=en&sa=X&ei=8vxnU4CnD43GoASmuYDwDA&ved=0CEYQ6AEwAA

Finally, it appears George Hindman owned/controlled/bought Sterling Machine. His grandson Paul Evans mentions Sterling building ‘fire trucks’ there. http://www.owensoundsuntimes.com/2011/04/17/new-exhibit-honours-hindman-ships

So, if anyone has more insight into Sterling Machine and Manufacturing, please let me know.
