“1948 willys 4×4 p/u with hydraulic 2 way plow with dump box. previous owner installed 6cyl f-head motor. i just replaced plow pump and up/down valve. wheel cylinders just rebuilt and master cyl replaced. technically, this does plow snow (and some b/s artists might say it plows great)………this is a project. i did a bunch of stuff on it and would like to pass it on to someone who will pick up the ball and do more stuff on it. this is a project. Timken split axle rear end. Dana 25 front end. The gas tank is bad but I have a brand new one for it. The body isn’t the best but it is in good condition for it’s age. The engine runs great. A reader named Ron wrote me the other day. He spotted a great deal on a restorable truck at a great price and now has a website with pics of the early work (I’ve included a couple pics below). Click on the photogallery to see all the pics. Ron already has a 1971 CJ-5 and his son a 84 CJ-8; you can see pics of those vehicles in the photogallery as well. Congrats on the find and good luck with the rebuild!
Ron writes, “We are in the middle of the off frame restoration of the 61 Willys. It was purchased new in 61 by a lady with a farm in Connecticut. She ordered it with a snow plow and a hydraulic dump bed. It only has 22,000 miles. I bought it from her grandson.”

The color scheme and signage is unusual (in a good way I think).
“This 1960 Willys Jeep has only 16,000 miles on it. It is a 6 cylinder. The outside has some rust around the back corners of the cab. The interior is like new. It needs some work — the starter needs to be rebuilt or replaced and the brakes need some work. We have the original owner’s manual and service manual.”

Here’s a modified truck that looks pretty good.
“1948 Willys pickup built on a 1985 Ford Bronco II. Ford 2.8 liter V6 with power brakes and power steering. 4WD, 4 speed manual, sun roof. Since earlier listing have had frame welded and replaced bucket seats with a bench seat, making it much more comfortable for taller drivers. Recently had engine tuned up, new starter and fuel pump. Less than 1700 miles on front brakes. Starts and runs well. Single owner, clear title. Actual mileage unknown.
This would is a good hobby truck that technically doesn’t need anything, but could stand some improvements here and there as time and money allow. Paint is fair, with a few points flaking off, especially on the roof. Tires are fair and not in need of immediate replacement, but a new set of larger wheels would look better. Previous owner created wood tailgate, but the original Willys tailgate is available – it is solid but needs work. The wood pickup bed could be replaced. The radio is old and should be replaced along with new speakers. Carpet is OK but eventually could be replaced, with floor / firewall insulation added. Doors could be better aligned and have weatherstripping replaced.
The truck has vintage, rugged Willys looks but with more modern amenities. I am only selling because I bought another ’48 Willys truck. No trades.”

I’d hoped to develop some sort of Thanksgiving themed post to celebrate Thanksgiving, but as it turns out there really aren’t many images of jeeps dressed as turkeys … go figure.
Instead, I happened upon this NY Times story of a guy named Harry Allen and his dad’s truck. To get right to the point, Harry restored it ($40k) and it’s a beautiful restoration. There’s also a slide show that accompanies the story.
I think this looks great with the ’56 Ford bed.
