Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1955 Willys Jeep Model M38 (military issue) Vehicle ID Number 84873. This Jeep was restored in the early 1990’s and has about 1,800 miles on it since restoration. Vehicle has the following features; 1. Dark Green Metal Fleck Paint 2. New Lock-out Hubs ( 4-wheel driv works fine) 3. Cragar Mag Wheels (5) with Safety Locks 4. Five all weather tires ( like new) 5. “For Sale or Trade: This is a WWII GPW Ford Script Jeep manufactured on May 11, 1942 with a low production number. It has survived with it’s serial number and instruction plates still intact and will have a clean Kentucky Classic Car title. We just pulled it out of the weeds and don’t have it cleaned out yet, so I’m not sure what parts are there or if the serial numbers match. It does roll and steer and seems pretty solid. There is body damage just below the “Ford” script area, but I believe a good sheet metal fabricator could repair it. The metal is basically solid all around the tub. The floor pans are bad, I would say. As you can see in the pictures, there are small “fender skirts” over the rear wheels. These are very solid and appear to be factory but could be an add on. The dash and instrument gauges are intact and look pretty good. I’ll add more info and upgrade the pictures when we get it cleaned up. Asking $1450 for this unusual find…..Would love to see this rare piece of U.S. military history from the Great Generation restored to its war-time glory and rolling down Main Street America in a 4th of July parade!”

“For sale or trade: 1947 Willys 4WD CJ-2A project Jeep. Its original flathead 4 cylinder engine appears to be locked up as it has been sitting for over 30 years. It rolls and steers. I took out the drive shaft as the gear shift seems to be stuck. Previous owner of 30+ years believes it was a Navy Jeep. Lots of sheet metal rust so check out the photos carefully. Frame appears to be solid. Have clear Kentucky title. Asking $1200 obo. Note: a replacement 4cyl flathead engine may be available.”

“Just putting this out there because i am thinking of selling the old willys. I love the thing and it runs amazingly well for a 1953 but i am in need of money. I have a 1953 Willys CJ3A farm model with pto that has always been stored in a garage. It starts up first time every time even with a cold engine. The 4WD and pto both work as they should as well. I was planning on making it my summer cruiser but did not have the money to get it road ready. It has a fiberglass tub and fenders but metal windshield frame and hood. What it needs to be road ready/sticker ready is blinker switch needs to be added, rear tail light relay, all the gauges need to be wired other then the spedo, horn needs to be wired, windshield wiper needs to be wired, seems to need brake shoes all the way around, oil pump gasket, oil pan gasket, exhaust pipe hanger kit needs to be added. And that was all it needs. I have a TON of extra parts for it such as lap seat belts, rear seat, blinker switch, interior light, side steps, brand new brake light and a ton of odds and ends stuff. NOT INTERESTED IN TRADES CASH IN HAND ONLY !!!”

For an extra $1400 I will throw in the trailer that hauls it to the trails, the trailer has a 6000 pound Ramsey winch on it.
The Willy’s Jeep and trailer are both licensed and street legal.

I got this one home and got her cranked and drove around the yard. She of course needs brakes and will need a fuel pump and some carb tuning also. The fuel tank was out when I bought it and looks clean. Currently not running but wouldn’t take much to get her fired up and going again. No title required in Alabama with something of this age, sold with bill of sale.”

This is an ULTRA uncommon, some would say rare, vehicle. My research discovered that probably just under 200 models were built (about one or two conversions a week) between 1981-82 on both the Concord and Eagle models. We would love to sell this entire vehicle to a collector or restoration person, but alas if necessary we will parts this vehicle out. Engine runs, we started the car, but seriously it is a straight 6 (4.0L) engine, they really don’t fail.
