Day 20 – Fri. May 1st: Luckenbach, Texas
<– Day 19 – Thu. Apr. 30th: Texas Justice, Pacific War, & a Comfy Bed | TRIP OVERVIEW | Day 21 – Sat. May 2nd: Ingram Rocks, but Kerrville Robots –>
After a good night’s sleep at James’ B&B, we took a few photos and hit the road. Our first stop was downtown to meet up with James. We both got so busy that we hadn’t had a chance to meet in person.
James strongly recommended that on our way to Kerrville, where we planned to hold up for a couple days, that we stop by Luckenbach, Texas. Of course, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson made the town famous in their song. That was all Ann or I knew of the town, so we were all in for that adventure.
We made a quick stop in Fredericksburg at the Nimitz portion of the National Museum of the Pacific and learned about Nimitz’s early life. However it was too dark to get any photos inside. We settled for some photos of us operating artillery.
Luckenbach is only six miles or so south of Fredericksburg, It didn’t take us long to get there. After some confusion about where Luckenbach was, we finally figured out (with some help) that the main loop into the town was closed for a bike rally, so we had to park nearby and walk to the town.

“I have a 1973 Jeep Dispatcher That was used by USPS as a postal delivery jeep till 2008. I’ve driven this reliably for a long time. The Motor runs really good. It has a rebuilt head, carburetor, new points, new spark plugs, and a rebuilt transmission pump. It has the 232ci AMC straight-six and a Chrysler torque-flite transmission and it all works great. I love this car but I’ve recently bought a new car so it has to go. First $2000 takes her home and I’m FIRM on that price.”
Year? Flatfender Yuba Sutter, CA $40k
Based on the pics, I”m not seeing a $40k jeep. Nice looking jeep.
“registered as 1950 ford, but is actually a early 1940’s. It has been painstakingly rebuilt from the body up by owner. Updated axles, transmission and engine. To many upgrades to list, but will answer any questions when you call.
Asking $40,000 since I currently have 50,000 invested! Less than 1,000 miles since completion of rebuild. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like any further information!”

1946 VEC CJ-2A Santa Rosa, CA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3900
The body is rough.
“This is a very early Civilian Jeep aka CJ 2A aka “Agro Jeep”. These early Jeeps still had the ax and shovel imprints on the driver side panel.
Originally it had the 3 speed column shift levers but sometime later on, this one had the shift tower replaced with the 3 speed shift cane. The transmission still has the linkage levers for the column shift.
This Jeep was used primarily as a Hunting Jeep/ Ranch Jeep. We cleaned her up and replaced the engine with a more period correct block. The replacement engine was not rebuilt but it checked out good and it runs great.
The brakes were also replaced and the most evident leaks were repaired.
Jeep drives good. It still needs some basic up keep but it’s a good runner / driver.
No title but all of the Data Plates are there. I will help with obtaining a title.”
Year? CJ-3A? Durango, CO $3300
Titled as a ’46, this looks more like a CJ-3A to me.
“Time to thin out my herd of toys. Titled as a 1946 but has a later Fhead engine, later windshield frame so who knows. The engine sounds pretty good, the gas is really old so stinks a little smoke, newer exhaust, new plugs, wires, filters, oil change etc. Has nealry brand new BFG ATKO tires, no rust, has good brakes, has a Saginaw steering box, runs and drives well but needs some “tinkering” Would be a good hunting Jeep. restore or leave as is.”
1951 CJ-3A Berlin, VT $6800
UPDATE: Still Available.
(03/14/2015) It’s a project. Body is fiberglass.
“Selling my CJ3A project. It is coming down the home stretch for completion but my interests have changed. It is listed as a 1951 but there is hardly any of the original parts left on it. Below is the list of modifications made to improve it’s abilities. The goal was to make this a trail ready Jeep for weekends. It runs and drives well.
-Front and Rear Dana 44s (like a Rubicon)-both completely rebuilt, front has disc brakes
-4.88 gears with Detroit Locker/TruTrack
-Engine is Buick 4.1L Even Fire w. a 4 barrel Quadrajet carb
-Transmission is a TH350 w. Advanced Adapter to mount the original D18 transfer case
-B & M Shifter
-Full Pre-Bent DOM Roll Cage (http://extremecustomparts.com/i-6292281-cj-willys-jeep-full-roll-cage-kit-cj2-cj2a-free-shipping.html)
-Power Steering Conversion
-Rear mounted gas tank from a postal Jeep, to get it out of the cab
-Suspension is Rubicon Express 2.5″ Wrangler Leaf springs(longer and wider than stock, better ride)
-Fiberglass Body = No Rust
-Has a new NOS BestTop Tiger Top
-35″ Super Swamper Truxxus M/T tires (like new) on alloy wheels
What it needs:
-The roll cage needs to be finished. It is prebent, just needs welding.
-The electrical harness is out of 60s CJ5. The taillights and turn signals (included) need to be connected.
-Paint it the color of your choice.
Looking for $6800 or interesting diesel/crew cab trades.”
