Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Runs and drives.
“1957 Willy’s wagon, 4X4, 4spd manual transmission, flat head 4 cylinder engine. Body is in great shape with no major rust issues, no holes missing parts or cheap replacement panels found. Frame is solid and straight. Interior has been completely redone about 5 years ago and looks great. New wiring harness throughout entire wagon. All glass replaced around the same time as interior. New wheel cylinders, brakes, and spring kits. Engine runs smooth with no noises. Transfer case and hubs work as they should. Trans has a bad synchro in 2nd gear, you can still drive just pops out of 2nd when you let off of the gas. Has stump pulling granny gear transfer case gearing. No noises or rattling from the rears. All around solid wagon for someone to completely restore or drive as is. Asking $6,000.00 for the Willy’s which is below collector market value for the current condition. You would be hard pressed to find a classic in as good of condition as this one for the same money! Must see in person, give me a call so we can arrange a time,”

Throw out bearing is starting to wind a little when clutch is in, easy $150 fix, seats need reupolstering, no rust holes anywhere frame is solid, does have some putty in body. But all in all for a 67 year old jeep its in pretty good condition. What you see in the pics is what you get, no doors and a bikinni top. I have ran it the last two summers, it goes great and is a blast to drive!”

(10/10/2013) The entry points of the body have been altered a little.
“1951 willys jeep, 283 sbc,sm 420 four speed,dana 18 transfer case and Warn over drive. New drive lines new u joints,wiring,windshield. New Mickey Thompson mtz 35×12.50r15 Mickey Thompsom classic 15×10 wheels, new four inch sky jacker suspension shocks and leafs. Power steering and front disk brakes. Dana 44 in the rear and Dana 30 in the front. Aluminum radiator, Kenwood stereo,amp and Fozgate speakers, seats redone new carpet. Willys was a total frame off resto. I have maybe 300 hundred miles on it, haven’t even changed the break in oil yet. I’m sure there is stuff I’ve left out, askin 10,000.00 and open to trades what do you have. ”

It is missing a few parts on the dash. The seller notes this is a frame off restoration, but one of the pics shows the primer being applied with the body (and other parts) still attached to the frame. Maybe I’m just confused.

“For Sale is a 1955 Willy’s Jeep. This is a 4 cylinder vehicle and is in very good condition. Tires and batteries are new. Engine turns over but that is as far as I’ve gone trying to get it started. This is a military vehicle. 4WD manual transmission with high and low range. I obtained this jeep through a storage unit auction. The jeep is as it was when coming out of the storage unit. I would also consider trades on a variety of items but if you want to make a trade please be sure the value of your item is commensurate with the value of the jeep or you could do trade plus cash if that is not the case. I have clear paperwork in the form of a “Transferrable NYS Registration” which is all you need (along with a sales receipt from me) to register this vehicle. Give a call if your interested. “For Sale: 1964 CJ5a Jeep “Tuxedo Park Mark IV” hard to find Jeep, 134 CID 4cyl F Head engine. Three on the tree and single lever 4 wheel shifter. 60/40 seat. Newly rebuilt engine, brakes, clutch, dash. Chrome hinges mostly re-chromed. New windshield frame and glass, new bikini top. Very nice paint. Too many new parts to list here. Serious inquires only. Pick up in Fallon as it is not registered but have clean Nevada title. Asking $7,500 OBO.”

I have tried to do some searches for United Nation jeeps, but never had much luck. Apparently, Charles had much more luck. I would expect that most, if not all of these, are Hotchkiss made.
Cam forwarded this Christmas cover from the December 1943 issue of Army Motors to get us in the right mood.
John picked up these 5 FCs the other day out of Canandaigua, New York. You might remember these for sale last month.
