Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Over the last few weeks readers have sent several gifts my way, so I wanted to thank folks. In late August, after we pondered naming the Alpine Coach the “Batmobile” (given we found a bat in it), Alaska Paul and the Goddess Deborah sent us a set of hanging bat lights and other bat related accessories. They will make a great evening addition to the coach.
A few weeks later, Michael kindly sent me a couple hot wheels jeeps, neither of which I had. So, a big thanks to him for that.
Finally, yesterday I received something from TJ I’ve wanted for years, but never got around to getting for myself: An aluminum finned transfercase pan. It’s thicker and stouter than I expected. I’ll install it on Biscuit when I get to working on it.
Roger Martin is hoping to find a set of 1960s front hubcaps with the hole in them. He currently has the hubcaps as shown in the pic below, but would like to add some selective hubs to the front of the jeep. You can email Roger at rogerjm55 @ gmail.com (remove the spaces from around the @).
This jeep lived its unused-life in a heated garage. This jeep only has 1500 miles and that’s believable given the condition shown in the pics. Thanks to John for sharing this one.

“Purchased new by Rhode Island-based Scarpetti Oldsmobile for exclusive use as a snowplow, a letter from dealership owner Edward Scarpetti indicates that the odometer’s current claim of around 1,500 miles since new is to be absolutely believed.
A lifetime of storage inside a heated garage—except during snowfall—is evident in the exceptional original condition of the well-preserved paint and overall patination. Both the dealership’s hand-lettering and white-wall off-road tires are believed to be original as well, alongside the rarely preserved metal hardtop from Koenig Iron Works of Houston, Texas. The white model 520 “Jiffy Full Cab” top features removable doors and a built-in, high-powered backup light for plow duty, and presents a delightful contrast to the Jeep’s bright President Red paint.
Other than the removable hardtop and a period-correct, dash-mounted Oldsmobile badge from the late 1950s, this CJ -5 is unmodified and features its original 2.2-liter (134 ci) powertrain. CJs were roundly the most capable factory off-roaders of the 20th century, and this CJ-5 is no different with its two-speed 4×4 transfer case and locking front hubs, all backed by the original three-speed manual transmission—more than enough hardware to tackle any early CJ rally or enter sympathetic service as a ranch shuttle.”
Here’s a first-year CJ-5 with under 50,000 miles. This has the early 0-10 King Seeley speedometer. This is a tempting one…

“This is a 1953 Willys CJ3B jeep. Total rust free jeep with some goodies on it. Restored 20 years ago and rebuilt motor, Hurricane inline 4, Runs like a sewing machine. Custom front bumper to hold the rare winch Warn 8274, has Warn locking hubs, Warn overdrive. Custom rollbar with jerry can. 3 speed trans. Good clutch. 4×4 works great. I currently drive this jeep daily to the store etc. Great little jeep for around town and crawling in the mountains. It gets attention everywhere. Comes with a bikini top and a full black tiger soft top and soft doors. I also have some original parts that came off it as well.”
If I had more time for projects, I would consider snagging this. This may be the first uninstalled body I’ve seen.

According to the seller this was a Navy contract CJ-2A. It’s not clear what evidence the seller has, but there might be a plate under the serial plate on the firewall. This would be a rare 2A if that’s the case.

“1948 willys ran an drove when I parked it (3 years ago) very little rust, solid body. Clean PA title All wiring replaced with new harness, with LED lights. Was a side project and Unfortunately I have some personal issues come up this year and need to sell it. Asking $5,500 or best offer. Will consider partial trades as well.”
I believe this jeep is equipped with some vintage Runck bumpers (out of North Bend, Ohio). The horizontal posts on the bumpers is the clue. The roll bar might also be Runck.

This has been available for a few weeks. It looks to have an overdrive and some early Free-Lock hubs. I could grab this for someone if they want the overdrive and other parts. I just want the hubs, but I don’t want a parts jeep sitting around. No description provided.

“Hey everyone this is a pretty neat CJ-2A Willy’s Jeep. I get into a conversation every time I drive it. I wanted to keep the Patina look but clean up the inside along with reliability with this truck. Registered as a 1949 Cj-2A Jeep Willy’s. I was able to obtain a transferable registration. There is no title but I have a transferable registration. This has been a joy to own and drive. Has a few thousand $ in new parts. (Have most of the receipts) All fluids changed within 4 months. Diff, trans, engine, coolant, transfer. Could use a new fly wheel gear/ brake work. Definitely has its quirks but overall makes it down the road. 140 therm, Newer shock’s.All new wiring around, starter, battery, lights, etc. carb adjustment, Bell crank rebuild. More and more parts to add. Comes with a bin of old and new parts. This has the Kaiser supersonic engine and head. Body is alright. Some patches on it. 3 speed. 4cyl Jeep Has been a fun summer with it.”
This was listed at an estate sale just over a week ago. The sellers thought it worth $25k, but obviously it isn’t. It does look to have a column shift and tool indents.

“Home built trailer utilizing Jeep pickup bed and a rear truck axel. Lights work. No brakes. Racks are removable. Comes with tool box. Jack mounted on tongue. Tires new spring 2024. For another hundred I gotta spare you can have. I hauled this trailer loaded from Oregon in April. It pulls great with my Tacoma. Figuring out how to license it in NYS is beyond me. Never occurred to me it would need a plate.
One could use this easily off highway on the farm, in an orchard, or sugar bush.”

The seats look comfy, but the steering wheel looks pretty close to the seat. The front frame rails have an unusual slope to them.

“Great running project. I have too many cool things around and this one just don’t match my style! Runs and drives. Not perfect at all. Titled as a 1946 Willys FORGET ABOUT EMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS WITH THIS CHARM!!! Everything works on it. A few little things here and there but pretty complete for the most part. 4.3L Votec engine swap. Starts right up. NO TRADES AND VERY LITTLE NEGOTIABLE IN PERSON ONLY!!!”
Probably not much value here, but it does have some interesting mods. What is likely a Buick 215 is wedged in there pretty tight. The front springs have a unique reversal setup. The rear of the body has been patched and some unique tail lights added. The hood is secured from the top of the hood. This might have been a hotrod and a looker back in the day.
