You’ll need a BIG trailer, but it looks like it might be a good deal if the frames are straight and if you have the space to store all this.
“Four actual jeep frames- one title. One nearly complete flat fender willy’s minus motor. The 72 cj is missing the front fenders and motor- maybe more?? A jeep motor from the same era is included- it did run when it was removed and has been stored inside. Trannys, transfer cases, extra hoods grills windshields- lots of good usable jeep parts. This looks in great shape and includes a Warn OD and a winch. The top looks excellent. I’d say this is a good price, except for that bad piston.

Great hunting Jeep. 101″ wheel base so rides nice and lots of room inside. I would keep but have too many jeeps and Wife says sell one. These jeeps are pretty rare the Forest Service only bought these a couple years, notice flat top fender wells on back. Would be a real nice restoration project, or just drive it and enjoy.”
UPDATE: Steff notes in the comments below that the gas line has been fixed. As I mentioned below, the gas line broke prior to my visit so I wasn’t able to hear the engine run. Was listed at $3000.

My son Karson and I drove to Wanship to check out this CJ-3B. The jeep is located high up on a hill overlooking the rockport Reservoir — the view was worth the trip alone.
While checking out this jeep, I snapped some pics and talked with Darrel and Arne. If you call on this jeep, you’ll be emailing Arne’s wife, then meeting up with one or more of the three to look it over. So, that’s just to clarify if you get confused about whom are are dealing with. The actual owner of the jeep is Darrel.
On this day, I didn’t get to listen to the jeep start as one of the gas lines had sprung a leak at one of the places where the gas line is clamped. This caused some gas to leak into the garage which stank up the garage pretty good. At the time of our visit, the garage was nearly fume free, but we didn’t want to take a chance so we rolled the jeep out of the garage. You can see the end of the line sticking out from underneath the passenger side of the jeep.
While this CJ-3B does have some wear, you can easily see this was a classic 80s flattie, especially with the padded rollbar. Darrel said that this jeep lived much of it’s life in the Tahoe area, and it looks like it was built for the trail. I forgot to ask about the differential ratio and whether it had posi/lockers in either differential.
One of the more unusual features was the emergency brake (at least I have never seen this mod before). The emergency brake is located very nearly where you’d install an overdrive shifter, and looks like one too, but instead has a button on the top of the shifter. To engage the emergency brake (located on the back of the dana 18) you pull the lever towards you. To release it, I believe (didn’t test it) you push the button on top and it releases. I really liked this idea and think I’ll try to implement something simlar for my back emergency brakes.
Karson’s evaluation was “it was cool”, which was followed by ideas about where we could go jeeping once I got the roll cage put on the jeep. Then he said, “Dad, just let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to help you with your jeep museum project”. I think he’s got the jeep sickness 🙂
The front of this jeep has a Miner hood ornament, though the miner’s pan has fallen off (Darrel sill has the pan though). I did a quick search on Miner hood ornaments. According to this thread, “from 72-86 there were specials built for different states and promos. You can research online through books written by Jim Allen.”

It’s got a few updates.
“1950 Willys Flat fender CJ3A Jeep. Has a GM V-6 motor. Runs great. Good brakes, motor, 4WD, and has a PTO on rear. It has been sandblasted inside and out, and re-painted desert sand tan. It has a new windshield, all new rubber around windshield, all new wiring, and a really cool GPS speedometer. Almost new tires. New tail lights. Some rust on two of the hat rails underneath, but not bad. Original floors are solid, with no rust. It has been completely undercoated, under cab, and inside cab on floor. All the gears, 4wd, and high low shifters work. PTO works well also. Has a bikini top. She is ready to go. It does need the dust cover on clutch. It was not on it when I bought it, and I never had a reason to get one. They are available at any salvage yard. This is a solid, strong running jeep, with no leaks, no smoke, and runs great. There’s a number of good upgrades on this rather stock looking jeep.

Few specifics in the description. I think it’s got my seats.
“I took it apart, cleaned it up, put it back together. New; carb, coil, dist, starter, brakes, clutch, flywheel, suspension, rebuilt tranny and transfer. The drivetrain is all original. The cage is bolt in. Full soft top and bikini top, both in excellent condition. Soft top will not fit with cage installed. It is titled, tagged and insured, but I do not recommend it for the street or for anyone that can’t work on it themselves. It’s noisy and rides rough. It leaks oil. ”

“Up for sale is a 1956 Willys CJ3B Jeep. This is “barn fresh” with a plow and some extra parts. This high hood Willys is all original and I am the third owner, to the best of my knowledge. It was driven to and parked in storage 2 years ago. It has not run since then. The original Hurricane, 4 cylinder motor is all there and the drive train is in tact and functional. The body is a bit rusty, but the frame is pretty solid. The black soft top on it is in pretty good shape. This Willys is being sold in “as is” condition.
