Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Andy shared this unusual toy. I expect it is fairly rare, given I can only find one other that’s been auctioned. There is, however, a REPLICA box for one of these for sale on eBay (see pics at bottom).

Here’s an example of a REPLICA box that’s currently on eBay for $26.09.
This may well be an M-606. I wish there was a photo of the data tag or serial number. If this is truly an M-606 and its runs and drives as described, this is a good price.

“This 1960 Willys Jeep FC-150 was acquired as a non-running project by the seller approximately 14 years ago and was subsequently fitted with a replacement 134ci Hurricane inline-four, three-speed manual transmission, and dual range transfer case. The interior was reupholstered and a CD stereo installed along with AutoMeter gauges, a replacement wiring harness, and a one-wire alternator. The truck is finished in green over green and gray vinyl, and additional equipment includes a Warn overdrive unit, 15″ steel wheels, a side-mounted spare, locking front hubs, dual side mirrors, and a pintle hitch. “For sale: 1947 CJ2a. Here is everything I know about this Jeep. I bought it a year ago for hunting. I packed out deer and antelope with it, but the area where I hunt elk is a roadless area and vehicles are not allowed. I need something I can use to carry out an elk so I am selling the Jeep to buy a pack horse, otherwise I’d love to keep it. The guy I bought it from in Gillette, WY. bought it at auction, so I don’t have a lot of historical info or receipts. It runs like a top, started on the third try after storing it in a barn for 8 months. It clearly has a replacement metal body. Original type engine and running gear. I put brand new tires on it last fall and maybe have 500 miles on them. I put a new carburetor on last summer, new one works great. I just drove it for half An hour in and out of 4wd – terrific! As far as problems – it needs some electrical work – starts without a key, headlights work but taillights don’t. Oil, electrical and gas gauge works, temps, speedo/odometer don’t. There is no parking brake. It has original (weak) brakes. Paint has chipped off on hood and tailgate. Price: $6,000. I’d prefer to have you pick it up but I can deliver it if not too distant, or we can arrange delivery in some way. I am in Dubois, WY.”

TJ shared this unusual body with a unique dash. I can’t remember seeing this type of body. The transom appears extra wide, too, though that might be just an optical illusion. No description provided.
“‘m finally selling my Willys jeep. It has a clean Colorado title. It is a CJ2A that has been converted to a 12 volt system and it starts right up and runs great. Everything works on it including the horn, wipers, guages, and lights. According to the Title, it is a 1946, but many things are not of that year. Many parts have been repaired or replaced. It has a new radiator, carburator, wiper motor, sun top from a M38, tie rod ends, steering stablizer, Gas tank, brakes, head gasket, rear floor mat, and windshield frame with glass. The overall body is in good shape with small rust under the passenger side, and some dings and cracks in the paint. It also has a small glovebox.
If you are a purest, this is not the jeep for you, but if you want one to play around in the hills, this is it. Also comes with Grill guard and tow bar.”
“I have a pair of jeep fc150’s that I bought as a project but plans have changed. The red one is mostly complete and runs and has a title but has some rust in a few areas. The white one has a Bill of sale only and the motor is locked up but the drive train is there and it was a flat bed that the previous owner removed. These are pretty cool old jeeps and head turners. I was looking for an answer to a question when this “HotRod | Race Car | Drift Car Wiring for Beginners” video popped up. It seems like a real useful video and it is making me consider adopting a couple of ideas.
For example, currently there is no solenoid within the electrical system (I was just going to redo what was already there). But, the solenoid makes sense (and maybe two make sense), but now I have to figure out where to put the solenoid(s). My current plan would be to put them on the passenger side of the rear inside the dog house. That would be close to the battery and the starter, so I wouldn’t have to run the starter cables such a long distance. Anyway, still thinking through that ….
Also, in the current electrical design, there was no safety switch (meaning to force the FC to only start in Park or Neutral). This seems like a pretty good idea to have. But, my shifter (late 1960s Dodge A100 shifter) doesn’t have one installed. Nor was there anything installed on the TH350 transmission. However, Lokar makes a solution that can be adapted to a TH350 (and other trannys). The limitation of the Lokar is that you can choose to have a safety switch or a reverse light switch, but not both. That got me on a tangent of wondering if I could also add a backup light switch to that setup.
Another idea I had was to build a custom bracket and install a Chev brake light switch on it that would fit in the front of the shifter. So, when the shifter was in Park, the switch would be pushed in, allowing the ignition voltage to pass through. But, it would only be setup to start in Park (maybe that isn’t a big deal). Then, I’d use the Lokar at the transmission to control the reverse lights.
Anyway, check out the video. I thought it was good. (note that the wire he has going from the alternator to the fuse box via a diode goes, on my set up, to the tach … so I don’t think the feedback he experienced would be an issue??).
The seller wants $40 (plus shipping) for this beat up four-page brochure, but it does seem a rare one. Given the included picture of the pen, I’d say this is about 8.5 x 11 when unfolded fully.
This wants about $53 (plus shipping) for this brochure. One edge is rough. It appears the brochure unfolds twice. The two pics below show both sides completely unfolded.

UPDATE: Thanks to Mark for sharing images of his yellow Approved Willys Service sign. That makes three known yellow signs.
As Barney notes in the comments, “Mark said he believed the signs were made using old, solid patio table tops, thus explaining the center hole filled with a bolt. Now we know of 3 and also a more plausible explanation than mine above. It is a cool sign for the price and well built.

UPDATE: Originally published May 20, 2024:Barney Goodwin from Barney’s Jeep Parts just purchased this yellow Approved Willys Service sign, which is similar in colors, content and styling to a sign posted on eWillys back in 2020 (see bottom of post). Does anyone have any history behind these unusual service signs. Barney noted that on the back of his it references Chicago if that’s any help.
Barney added, “This sign is made of heavy gauge steel . It is not flimsy like an import. The edges are rolled and there is a weathered support plank on the back as shown. The rolled edge is painted black. There is stenciling on the back with perhaps a product number For Willys Overland by a Chicago contractor.”

Roger Martin spotted this unusual Willys Service Sign at a Portland, Indiana, Tractor show today. If you are interested in the sign, we can get you the seller’s p#.
“I’ve owned this 1948 Willys CJ2a since 2009 and have thoroughly enjoyed driving and working on it, but am in a different stage of life and now it’s time to let someone else have some adventures with it.
Highlights:
• Frame-off restoration in 2010. Sandblasted and coated the frame, replaced leaf springs (NOS) and shackles, shocks, overdrive, electrical harness, seat cushions and canvas covers. Engine and transmission were solid when I bought it. Total mileage unknown, I’ve put about 10k on it.
• Body is original steel tub as far as I know. It has a few dings and small ares of corrosion. Original Luzon red re-painted in 2010.
• 134 ci. flathead “Go-Devil” engine with Solex carburetor and electric fuel pump, 3 speed T-90 manual (6 forward speeds with overdrive split), 4WD of course :).
• I have a soft top and all the bows for it. I’ve been told it is an older aftermarket “Sunbrella” top but I’m not 100% sure. It keeps wind and shade off you, but is a little tired and is not waterproof.
• I’ll also include a timing light, dwell meter, mechanical fuel pump, and some other spare parts and accessories.
My goal for this Jeep was never for it to be a show vehicle, just something that looked nice and drove like the original. It runs and drives well; it’s a hoot around town and even more fun up in the mountains”
